The series would potentially star Joseph Morgan & Phoebe Tonkin in their original ‘Vampire Diaries’ roles.
If one hour of The Vampire Diaries every week isn’t enough to quench your thirst, I’ve got some good news: a spin-off series is in the works, according to HollywoodLife.com‘s sister site Deadline, and it’ll feature a pair of very familiar faces. The Originals would chronicle the adventures of the Mikaelson family — including Joseph Morgan‘s Klaus.
Here’s the official description for the potential show:
“The Originals centers on the Original family of vampires, as Klaus returns to the supernatural melting pot that is the French Quarter of New Orleans — a town he helped build centuries ago — and is reunited with his diabolical former protégé Marcel.”
Curiously, the show will also star Phoebe Tonkin as Hayley, which means there’s obviously a lot we still don’t know about the she-wolf.
The Vampire Diaries‘ April 25 episode, written by co-creator/executive producer Julie Plec, will serve as a backdoor pilot for the spin-off.
What Does This Spin-Off Mean For ‘The Vampire Diaries?’
Obviously, since this news is still very fresh, we don’t know how the introduction of The Originals would affect the future of The Vampire Diaries. However, it’s safe to assume that if both Joseph and Phoebe are working full-time on the new show next fall, we’ll be seeing a lot less of them in present-day Mystic Falls.
Does that mean Klaus or Phoebe or both will be killed off before the end of this season? Who knows? This is The Vampire Diaries we’re talking about here, so anything can happen — including a spin-off.
Do you think The Originals sounds like a good idea? Drop me a comment with your instant reactions!

I love the klaus character. He needs his own story with no over shadowing from the rest of the cast. I don’t really care who else is included it that. His character alone is worth the spin-off.
