It’s official! Britney Spears confirms that she’s leaving ‘The X Factor,’ after serving as a judge for one season. We will be forever sad.

Britney Spears made the “very difficult decision” to leave Simon Cowell’s hit reality series, The X Factor, to focus on her music career.

“I’ve made the very difficult decision not to return for another season. I had an incredible time doing the show and I love the other judges and I am so proud of my teens but it’s time for me to get back in the studio,” Britney, 31, said in a statement.

“Watching them all do their thing up on that stage every week made me miss performing so much! I can’t wait to get back out there and do what I love most” she added.

“In light of sourced reports and speculation, it is confirmed that Britney did decide, and is in fact not returning to X Factor. Fox has been informed,” her rep tells JustJared.com.

A source close to the situation told HollywoodLife.com exclusively, “Talk of Britney not returning to The X Factor is true. Her people wanted to save face and come out with her leaving and ‘working on her album’ rather than not being asked back, which was going to happen. Simon decided that he would let her go out gracefully, so it didn’t look like she was fired or not asked back, which was going to happen.”

Britney is reportedly in negotiations to headline a show in Las Vegas, according to TMZ!
