Just when we thought the competitors in the Hunger Games couldn’t get any more beautiful, along comes Sam Claflin to prove us all wrong. Entertainment Weekly has the first official look at Sam as Finnick Odair, a character in the upcoming Hunger Games: Catching Fire movie — and we barely recognized him in his new Panem get-up!

News of Sam’s casting first broke in July 2012, and was met with mixed reactions from HollywoodLife.com readers. One reader supported the decision, saying, “I like Sam claflin, he’s a damn good actor,” while another reader said, “I’m boycotting the movie if this is true.” And so on, and so forth.

We last saw Sam acting alongside Kristen Stewart and Chris Hemsworth in Snow White and the Huntsman.

Who Is Finnick Odair?

Good question!

Finnick, 24, is the male tribute from District 4 who is selected to do battle in the Third Quarter Quell — every 25 years, the Hunger Games’ rules shift — and will face off against Katniss (Jennifer Lawrence), Peeta (Josh Hutcherson) and many others. He’s beloved by the people of the Capitol, and not just because he’s beautiful, though I’m sure that doesn’t hurt.

He’s also a bit of a man-whore, known for hitting and quitting many young ladies throughout the Capitol.

His weapon of choice is a trident, which is one of the tools he used to win his first Hunger Games when he was just 14 years old.
