The 15-year-old Pakistani girl who was violently shot in the head by the Taliban in October for her women’s rights activism, was finally released from Queen Elizabeth Hospital on Jan. 3.

Malala Yousafzai, 15, has been recovering in a UK hospital since October for wounds she suffered at the hands of the Taliban on Oct. 9. As an activist for girls education and equality in Pakistan, Malala was seen as a “threat” by the Taliban — and shot at point-blank range while leaving her all-girls school.

After months of treatment, Malala was finally been released from Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham on Jan. 3. In a statement, the hospital revealed that she has made a remarkable recovery and will be finishing her treatment as an outpatient.

“[Malala is] well enough to be treated by the hospital as an outpatient for the next few weeks,” the statement read.“She is still due to be readmitted in late January or early February to undergo cranial reconstructive surgery as part of her long-term recovery, and in the meantime she will visit the hospital regularly to attend clinical appointments.”

Medical experts have been optimistic about her recovery since she was airlifted from Pakistan to the UK on Oct. 15, especially since teenage brains are still growing.

“Malala is a strong young woman and has worked hard with the people caring for her to make excellent progress in her recovery,” Dr. David Rosser, the hospital’s medical director said.

Malala Shot For Award-Winning Activism Blog On BBC

On Oct. 14, and armed Taliban militant charged her school bus in Swat Valley, Pakistan and shot her at point-blank range in the head and neck. Malala was targeted for speaking out against the Taliban and promoting the education of young girls. She blogged about her views for an award-winning blog for the BBC under a pen name. The Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) have taken responsibility for the shootings, and have promised to target her again if she survives the attack.

I hope for her life she doesnt move back home. She has a target on her back and would be dead in less than 24 hours. Im sure the same people are after her and waiting for her to return. Id like to see this young lady stay safe and stand up for womans rights.
