Craigslist Sperm Donor Ordered To Pay $6,000 In Child Support

The state of Kansas is forcing a man to pay child support to he donated his sperm to a lesbian couple three years ago — even after a written agreement that stated otherwise. Do YOU think that’s fair?

William Marotta has found himself in the middle of a pricey and expensive legal battle three years after he donated his sperm to Angela Bauer, 43, and Jennifer Schreiner, 34, partners who desperately wanted to have a child.

Now, after Angela lost her job and the family was put on welfare, the state of Kansas is asking William for child support — and making him fork over $6,000.

The lesbian couple found William on Craigslist, and all three signed a contract agreeing that he would have no legal responsibility for the child.

Speaking Out About Donating His Sperm

William, a married mechanic who fosters children with his wife, revealed to the Today show on Jan. 3 that he wanted to help out a couple that needed assistance having children.

“If you are two women, it’s difficult without a man there, so I donated,” he said during the interview. ”No good deed goes unpunished.”

Angela & Jennifer Also Don’t Think William Should Pay

The couple also believes William doesn’t need to fork over the cash — they agree that he shouldn’t be legally responsible for their daughter.

“We never intended for him [Marotta] to support her,” Angela said on Today. “That’s our responsibility we have as her parents. I have the joy of raising her and loving her and it’s only because of William.”

Angela de Rocha, spokesperson for the Kansas Department for Children and Families, said that when a parent seeks benefits for his or her child, they need to determine who the child’s father is to lessen costs from taxpayers. So that’s what the state did — and are strapping William with the $6,000 bill.

The child, that could not have been conceived without his decision to provide his sperm, deserves the support of the man, without whom, the child would not be alive. If the State was not there, would you prefer the father be held responsible or the child be allowed to starve to death? Yes, the State is there, but why should totally innocent taxpayers be required to fill the father’s responsibility?

How about the fact that they acknowledge that the financial responsibility of the child is theirs! If they don’t want the state to go after the sperm donor, then perhaps thy should do as thy stated and take responsibility themselves. Why should the taxpayers have to pay when the taxpayers had no part at all!

People who work in public offices need much education on legal rights, written and verbal contracts and that he never played a part as an active father, now Kansas and some other bull headed states try to force a donor in kind to pay when the parents dont want his money!!! Come on Kansas, Minn and other states you need to learn to honor the parties interests and not make up your own rules, over 95% people who voted so far on the poll shown about say the state is wrong, this is another clear case that less Govt is needed in some cases! Indiana is about to under go changes do to a Governor and others who thought they were doing a good thing by closing public schools…..

Ali they had to do was say they didn’t know who the dad was,the child was the product of a drunken romp that she has no memory of.Case closed.

Yes! I agree. They obviously have no knowledge of how the system works. IF you didn’t want them to go after the “dad”, you just tell them you have no idea who the father is. By law, they HAVE to go after the biological father. If you just tell them you have no idea who the father is, they have no one to go after. Totally their fault…

What this article failed to state is that these 2 women have 8 or 7 other kids also.

Yes@Dude, I just read another article that states they have 7 other children. However, I want to add that if same sex marriage was legal in their state, this donor would be completely off the hook and it would be the parent’s responsibility to support their children.

something doesn’t add up here. if they had gone through a sperm donor agency, this would not have been an issue. why did they do that instead of just going to some craigslist thing? and, did they pay him for his sperm, or did he just do it out of the goodness of his heart? cuz, tho it certainly sounds crazy, i think that reasonable limits could be placed on dads just willy-nilly throwing seed out there. look what we got stuck with with octo-mom cuz that guy donated to her… now, taxpayers pay for her brood… maybe under some circumstances, it is appropriate to ask the dad to pay instead of the tax payers. it still doesn’t make sense to me why they didn’t go through an agency. is it that expensive? or, did they pay him for sex to skip the part where you have to pay someone to get the sperm to the egg… you know, i think there is more to this story.

@gbtw-I implore you to go on Craigslist “casual encounters”-click on different cities if you have to-and you’ll catch a few guys offering to donate their sperm to a lesbian couple the, ahem, “natural” way as long as they agree to sign contracts and not hold him legally responsible. Out the goodness of his heart my butt. What, ya didn’t want your wife to know you had a hot session with a coupla women there, buddy?? lol
