So sad! In a new interview, the ‘DWTS’ alum reveals she was taken advantage of by adults while studying dance as a young girl in England.
The gorgeous blonde-haired, blue-eyed Julianne Hough, 24, first caught our attention when she strutted her stuff as a professional dancer on Dancing With The Stars. But in an interview with Cosmopolitan, the dancer-turned-actress is opening up for the first time about the abuse she suffered as a child at a dance school in London.
“While I was in London, I was abused, mentally, physically, everything,” she confesses in the Feb. 2013 issue.
While Julianne admits to being abused, she isn’t willing to give any more information about the situation.
“I’m a very forgiving person, and I don’t want to hurt anybody,” she tells the magazine. “What’s past is past.”
In the interview, Julianne admits that she was overly sexualized as a young dancer.
“I was 10 years old looking like I was 28, being a very sensual dancer,” she reveals. “I was a tormented little kid who had to put on this sexy façade because that was my job and my life. But my heart was the same, and I was this innocent little girl. I wanted so much love.”
The abuse worsened, the actress says, “when I started hitting puberty, when I started becoming a woman and stopped being a little girl.”
While studying at the dance school, Julianne kept the abuse a secret from her parents.
“I’d rather take the pressure on myself,” she explains. “To this day, I don’t want to be a burden. I didn’t talk unless I was spoken to. I would look over to see if it was okay if I answered. I was perfect – perfect to a fault.”
The actress hopes her confession will help inspire other people to have the courage speak out about their abuse.
“I don’t want pity. To me it’s more about being that voice for people who don’t necessarily have a voice.”
