Newtown, Connecticut has received so many gifts from all over the country, that the postal workers can no longer manage the capacity. Read on for more details.
Love has been pouring down on the small town of Newtown, Conn. with donations coming in from around the world after the community was rocked by the horrific massacre at Sandy Hook Elementary School on Dec. 14. However, the town can no longer handle the enormous volume and is asking that gifts be given to others in need.
Newtown First Selectman Patricia Llodra told CNN, “Our hearts are warmed by the outpouring of love and support from all corners of our country and world.”
Rather than continue to send gifts to the Newtown community, Patricia has requested that donations be made to needy children and families in their own community.
“Thank you for understanding our message of appreciation and our need to now defer gifts to others in need,” Patricia said.
The Sandy Hook Donations Fund was created by the United Way of Western Connecticut and Newtown Savings Bank to help affected families.
As HollywoodLife.com previously reported, there has been an outpouring of love and support for the families and friends of those loved ones taken much too early in the deadly shootings at Sandy Hook Elementary School on Dec.14.
First Lady Michelle Obama expressed her condolences with an open letter to the community on Dec.20 titled “Holding You in Our Hearts” –promising that she and her husband would “find ways to prevent tragedies like this one”.
Demi Lovato also reached out to the community with a moving performance of “Angels Among Us“.
Are you touched with how much kindness there is in the world? How do YOU feel HollywoodLifers? How can you help a needy person? Keep sending your prayers to Newtown!
