Taylor opened up during an in-depth interview on CBS’ ’60 Minutes’ on Dec. 23 and revealed why she uses her past relationships to inspire her tracks!
At 23-years-old, Taylor Swift is a six-time Grammy Award winner, has 11 American Music Awards and 13 BMI prizes, thanks to her failed relationships and killer songwriting skills. Can you blame her for writing about her exes?
Taylor told 60 Minutes host Lesley Stahl that she tries to draw upon emotions that she has experienced when writing new songs, because she thinks people can relate to them more if they are based on personal experiences.
“My songs are always inspired by emotions. I break down emotions into like 50 million categories and one big category is sadness,” Taylor said.
Taylor admits that she’s experienced many types of sadness over the last couple of years. “There’s the missing-him kind of sadness. There’s the frustrated-and-confused, don’t-know-why-it-ended kind of sadness. There’s the I know we can’t be together but I miss you right now, there’s the sadness tinged with anger, there’s the sadness that has guilt with it, there’s the sadness that has a little bit of hope that he’ll come back. That’s why emotions are so beautiful to write about because they all sound so different to me,” she said.
It doesn’t appear as though Taylor will using relationship woes to inspire future songs because she’s happily dating One Direction member Harry Styles. They two lovebirds just returned from a romantic ski trip in Park City, Utah.
However, if Taylor and Harry do break up in the future, American Idol’s Tim Ubran already penned a great breakup song for Taylor to use!
What do YOU think, HollywoodLifers? Will Taylor write a song about Harry one day — or will they last forever?

She Will write a song about him, that’s for sure but the type of song is decided by how he treats her. John played with her heart and that’s why she writes bad break up songs about him. Taylor L treated her right and after the break up she wrote BTD, blaming herself for the failed relationship. I knew you were trouble is also slightly taking the blame upon herself as well. At least she has the ability to take the raw emotion and turn it into a song millions of girls can relate to. The emotion isn’t even always love seeing as she has songs for other things to.
Tied together with a smile
Change
Mean
Innocent
Long Love
The best day
Fifteen
And many more.
She doesn’t use the boys for song writing inspiration. She’s trying to find happiness. It’s only because she does write songs about failed relationships, now that everyone uses that as an excuse to write her off as a bad person. She still writes songs about John even three years later. She doesn’t need more inspiration. Also she doesn’t even have to date the the guy for inspiration to com. Tear drops on My guitar is about someone she’s never dated.
Directioners need to calm down. This is just Jelena all over again.
