One day after 26 people were killed at Sandy Hook Elementary School on Dec. 14, ‘Saturday Night Live’ opened with a tribute to those lost on Dec. 15.
The New York City Children’s Chorus opened the Dec. 15 episode of Saturday Night Live by singing “Silent Night,” a clear departure from SNL’s usual comedy routine-type opening. The song was performed in tribute to the 20 children and six adults who were shot and killed by Adam Lanza, 20, on Dec. 14 at Sandy Hook Elementary School.
At the closing of the Christmas song, the chorus turned back to tradition and shouted, “Live from New York, it’s Saturday Night!”

President Obama Will Visit Newtown, Connecticut
President Barack Obama is planning a visit to the town of Newtown on Dec. 16 as the gun control battle heats up. The President will meet with those families affected by the shooting and will also speak at an interfaith vigil for families of the victims as well as families from Sandy Hook Elementary School scheduled for 7PM EST.
On Dec. 14, Obama addressed a shaken and frightened nation, speaking not as a politician, but as a fellow parent. Overcome with his own grief, he had to take a moment to regain his composure and wipe tears from his eyes. “Tonight Michelle and I will do what I know every parent in America will do, we will hug our children a little tighter. And we will tell them that we love them,” he said.
Our thoughts remain with the victims who lost their lives, their suffering families, and the shaken community of Newtown, CT. We can’t imagine what they are feeling.
What do you think of this horrific situation, HollywoodLifers? Will this town ever recover? Will we as a nation?
