Adam, 20, is confirmed to be dead after killing 20 children and 6 adults at Sandy Hook Elementary School on Dec. 14. Find out how the high school loner turned into a masked killer.
Adam Lanza’s brother, Ryan Lanza, 24, who was originally identified as the gunman, describes his brother as having a personality disorder. Others suggest he had a history of autistic behavior. Either way, Adam’s path lead him to kill his mother Nancy Lanza, a kindergarten teacher, in the home they share, steal her guns, and then drove to Sandy Hook Elementary School at approximately 9:30 AM, where he killed 26 people.
Adam Lanza’s Past Revealed
Adam, 20, was allegedly a mild-mannered student in high school, often making the honor roll. Adam’s mom, whom he lived with, loved playing dice games and decorating her upscale home for the holidays with him.
A student from Adam’s high school said he was very quiet, thin and carried a black briefcase to class, which stuck out when all the other kids carried backpacks.
Adam allegedly dressed more formally than other students, wearing khaki pants, button-down shirts and at times, a pocket protector. Many remembered Adam as highly intelligent.
People From Adam’s Life Speak Out
“Everyone just assumed he was a smart kid and that’s why he didn’t like talking to people all the time,” Peter Lalli, 20, a fellow high school graduate of Adam’s, told the New York Daily News. “He hung out with the smart crowd.”
Another person used Twitter to share memories of his former classmate. Adam was “a weird kid since we were five years old,” Tim Dalton wrote on Twitter and added, “As horrible as this was, I can’t say I am surprised…. Burn in hell, Adam.”
While some family member say Adam has “major issues,” his aunt, Marsha Lanza, said her nephew was raised by kind, nurturing parents who would not have hesitated to seek mental help for him if he needed it.
“[My son] said [Adam] was very thin, very remote and was one of the goths,” Catherine Urso said, whose son attended college with Adam.
President Obama’s Speech On The Sandy Hook Shooting
On Dec. 14, President Barack Obama addressed a shaken and frightened nation, speaking not as a politician, but as a fellow parent. Overcome with his own grief, he had to take a moment to regain his composure and wipe tears from his eyes. “Tonight Michelle and I will do what I know every parent in America will do, we will hug our children a little tighter. And we will tell them that we love them,” he said.
Investigators now believe that Adam forced his way into the building on Dec. 14, according to CNN.
Our thoughts remain with the victims lost, their suffering families, and the shaken community of Newtown, CT.
