Watch Barbara’s super-awkward interview with the New Jersey governor, then weigh in with your own thoughts.
Is Chris Christie‘s expanding waistline the eighth wonder of the world? You’d think so based on Barbara Walters‘ latest interview with the New Jersey governor, in which she asked him point-blank for the secret behind his obesity. As you might expect, the interview — which was part of Babs’ 10 Most Fascinating People special Dec. 12 on ABC — took an uncomfortable turn from there.
Here’s the exact transcript of Babs and Chris’ super-awkward interaction:
BW: I feel very uncomfortable asking this question when I’m sitting opposite you, but you are a little overweight.
CC: More than a little.
CC: If I could figure that out, I’d fix it.
BW: There are people who say you couldn’t be president because you’re so heavy. What do you say to them?
CC: That’s ridiculous. I mean, that’s ridiculous. I don’t know what the basis for that is.
BW: I think they’re worried about your health.
CC: I’ve done this job pretty well, and I think people have been watching me for the last number of weeks in Hurricane Sandy — doing 18-hour days, then getting up and being just as effective in the job — so I don’t think that would be a problem.
What do YOU think about this interview, HollywoodLifers? Was Barbara wrong to ambush the governor with an off-topic question about his weight, or was she merely voicing a valid concern about a man who could someday run for President of the United States? Watch the interview below, then vote and drop a comment with more of your thoughts.
