Australian Radio Station Behind Kate Middleton Prank Being Investigated

In a story that seems to have no end in sight, the Australian radio station behind the Kate Middleton hospital prank is now under investigation! Fair or foul?

After the alleged suicide of Jacintha Saldanha, the nurse who connected the infamous prank call with Kate Middleton‘s hospital room, the Australian Communications and Media Authority opened a formal investigation into the broadcast by the station 2DayFM! What should be expected may surprise you!

To get all the technical jargon out of the way, “The investigation will focus on the compliance of the licensee with its license conditions and the Commercial Radio Codes of Practice,” the ACMA said in a statement. Chris Chapman, chairman of the ACMA, also mentioned that the organization’s “formal regulatory relationship is always with the relevant licensee (and not the presenters of any broadcast in question).”

What this has to do with the Australian DJs, Michael Christian and Mel Greig, is simple — they will not be solely targeted as the ACMA will be mostly focusing on the radio station as a whole. So no suspensions will be forthcoming from the investigation on the DJs.

Also, according to the ACMA, a radio show “must not broadcast the words of an identifiable person” unless the person “has been informed in advance or a reasonable person would be aware that the words may be broadcast” or, if someone was recorded without their knowledge, that person “has subsequently, but prior to broadcast, expressed consent to the broadcast of words.”

Rhys Holleran, the CEO of 2DayFM’s parent company, Southern Cross Austereo, combated this part of the investigation by mentioning that the King Edward VII hospital was called a total of five times to seek full permission to use the call on their airwaves, which the hospital clearly denies.

One thing is for sure, this story has just begun. There should still be an incredible roller coaster of events to happen. Stay tuned!

funny how these two cretins shamelessly cash in, while pretending that they regret their actions, which they clearly do not. Mel how much onions did you rub on your fingers to pretend to cry on cue? If you really regret your actions why have u done nothing but promote yourself and make money giving insincere interviews all the while. Mel and Micheal only care about the celebrity status and money to be made off thier disgusting and unforgiveable act of callousness. If you want to show u actually give a crap then theres only one way for u to prove it. Give every cent u own to the family of the woman who died because of your actions. Stop trying to garner sympathy (which you dont deserve), you are both persons with no concience at all. that staged interview is a complete joke, there is not one bit of real remorse in either of them. Your both disgusting human being who are beyond redemtion because of your callous actions following that poor womans death.

The radio station has to be prosecuted to fullest extend of the law.

My daughter suffered from bullying via unwanted messages and phone calls.
She suffered greatly when they had no regard for her health and in the middle of important exams.
Maybe the greed to get a world story for 15 minutes of fame back fired!
The 2 DJ had no ethics in the process and simply to say higher people in “day radio had the final word is not good enough.
Do the DJ acted ethically. NO
Someone Died as a consequence of their actions and behaviour is this not what bullies do?

I do feel that both the radio station and the DJ’s should take more responsibility for their actions. Whether they intended to or not, with or without malice, both parties played a significant role in Jacintha’s death. Clearly, this is a case where the perpetrators did not stop to think about the consequences of their actions. The definition of ‘hoax’ is to “deceive or defraud”, and in our society, these acts can be chargeable under the criminal code. The Radio station and the DJ’s should be held accountable within this context of the Law. The radio station for not ensuring they endorse the proper HR policies thereby having employees who think they can behave in this manner. And, the DJ’s for partaking in a very distasteful activity akin to cyber bullying.
