The Mexican-American singer was aboard an airplane that tragically crashed on Dec. 9 and killed everyone on board — but her family still has faith that she will be found ‘OK’ somewhere near the wreckage site. Read on for all the details.
Jenni Rivera, 43, was not only a Grammy-winning Mexican-American singer, but also a proud mother of five and beloved by her large family. But despite being aboard a Learjet that crashed on Dec. 9 — leaving nothing but ashes and wreckage behind — her family is still holding out hope that she will be found alive.
Jenni’s brother Juan Rivera said that he does not believe she died aboard the private jet that went down in the mountains outside Monterrey — even though her half-melted driver’s license was found at the scene, and officials say nearly nothing was left of the Learjet.
“In our eyes, we still have faith that our sister will be OK,” he told reporters outside the family home near Long Beach, Calif. on Dec. 10.
“We thank God for the life that he has given my sister,” he added. “For all the triumphs and successes she has had, and we expect that there will be more in the future.”
The plane, which disappeared from radar 10 minutes after taking off from Monterrey, Nuevo León, crashed in the mountainside near the Mexican capital. No bodies have been recovered at the wreckage site, which spreads nearly 300 feet.
UPDATE: Jenni’s remains were found at the sight on Dec. 11. And in a cruel twist of fate, it is believed that Jenni’s traveling conditions were not as safe as could be, as her Pilot was overworked and the plane had previous history of crashing. So sad.
Such a tragedy and a talent taken too soon. We hope her family finds peace.
