Fans will be able to see Jenni on the big screen next spring when her debut film ‘Filly Brown’ is released. Read on for more details.
It has been decided that Jenni Rivera‘s debut film Filly Brown will continue to have its original release date of April 2013. The film’s co-star and producer Edward James Olmos says Jenni was destined to become the most famous Mexican-American artist ever and that her performance is Oscar worthy!
In the movie, Jenni stars as an incarcerated drug addict who tries to help her daughter, an up-and-coming hip-hop artist named Filly Brown. The gritty drama premiered at Sundance earlier this year.
“Jenni Rivera was destined to surpass any artist that we have ever seen coming from the Mexican-American culture,” the film’s producer Edward told Mashable.com. “She was just starting.”
“News of the plane crash tore my heart out,” Edward told Billboard. “Jenni was just an amazing force. From the very beginning I’ve said that she could garner an Academy Award for her work in Filly Brown. She had a tough life, but she also had an extraordinary gift. She touched millions of people and she’ll be missed.”
“I had to dig deep for the role,” Jenni said of her first try at acting. “I think you’ll be pleasantly surprised. If I can make Edward James Olmos cry, to me that means it was a success.”
Edward James Olmos recorded the song “Hurts So Bad” with the superstar especially for the film.
As HollywoodLife.com previously reported, Jenni’s plane crashed on Dec.9. in Monterrey, Mexico. The small plane took off at 3:15AM, but crashed shortly thereafter when it lost contact with air traffic controllers.
Jenni’s publicist, lawyer and makeup artist were also killed in the crash. Their remains were found on Dec.11. Jenni’s family intend to bring her home to Southern California to bury her.
