So sad. Hospital receptionist Jacintha Saldanha, who mistakenly transferred a prank call to Kate Middleton’s hospital room on Dec. 4, was found dead on Dec. 6. According to a new report, suicide is suspected to be the cause of death.

DJs Mel Greig and Michael Christian from Sydney’s 2Day FM station, claiming to be Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Charlessuccessfully prank called Kate Middleton‘s hospital room on December 4 after a unknowing receptionist, identified as Jacintha Saldanha — a mother of two, patched them through. The DJs were able to speak to Kate’s private nurse at King Edward VII Hospital and were given actual information on Kate’s condition, according to audio of the call posted online (listen in full below). Unfortunately, the receptionist who patched through the call has allegedly committed suicide as she was found dead on Dec. 6.

The woman was found dead near the hospital at 9:30AM on Thursday Dec. 6, according to TMZ. Paramedics arrived on the scene, but were unable to revive the woman. Scotland Yard is treating the death as a possible suicide.

Prince William & Kate Middleton Release Statement

A spokesperson from St. James’ Palace released a statement, saying, “The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are deeply saddened to learn of the death of Jacintha Saldanha. Their Royal Highnesses were looked after so wonderfully well at all times by everybody at King Edward VII Hospital, and their thoughts and prayers are with Jacintha Saldanha’s family, friends and colleagues at this very sad time.”

King Edward VII Hospital Releases Statement

“It is with very deep sadness that we confirm the tragic death of a member of our nursing staff, Jacintha Saldanha. Jacintha has worked at the King Edward VII’s Hospital for more than four years. She was an excellent nurse and well-respected and popular with all of her colleagues. We can confirm that Jacintha was recently the victim of a hoax call to the hospital. The hospital had been supporting her throughout this difficult time.”

John Lofthouse, the Chief Executive at the hospital, added, “Our thoughts and deepest sympathies at this time are with her family and friends. Everyone is shocked by the loss of a much loved and valued colleague.”

Lord Glenarthur, the Chairman of the hospital, said, “This is a tragic event. Jacintha was a first class nurse who cared diligently for hundreds of patients during her time with us. She will be greatly missed.”

Prank Call Backstory

During the call, you can hear Mel posing as Queen Elizabeth II saying, “Hello, I’m just looking after my granddaughter, Kate. I wanted to see how her little tummy bug is going.”

It’s unclear exactly what the nurse told Mel, but she says the nurse, “was giving us real information,” that left her in shock.

“We were very surprised that our call was put through,” Mel is quoted as saying. “We thought we’d be hung up on as soon as they heard our terrible accents.”

The same day, the radio station also issued an apology on its Twitter feed, saying: “2Day FM sincerely apologizes for any inconvenience caused by the inquiry to Kate’s hospital, the radio segment was done with light-hearted intentions, we wish Kate and her family all the best and we’re glad to hear she’s doing well.”

The Duchess of Cambridge is now at home, resting with Prince William, after receiving treatment for hyperemesis gravidarum, a condition involving nausea and vomiting, a more severe form of morning sickness that some women suffer from during early pregnancy.

Very sad for the family…BUT…for a woman, especially a nurse to belittle her own life, and her family’s life to commit suicide over such a silly thing…sounds like there is much more to it, than that, perhaps she had some sort of psychological issues, maybe bi-polar or something. Suicide is a very selfish act, and for people to blame the radio station is ridiculous!!

So many Questions??? so very sad for her children and husband. I have read all the comments and what can anyone do this woman is dead. The DJs are the tip of the iceberg? I wonder if this women was Indian and if so,there religion is against suicide big time. Why in this day and age would a hospital fire a person for making a honest mistake, She heard Queen can you imagine.I am sure the hospital would understand. As for the royal family, i think they are more worried about bad publicity, they live in a world so far removed from the common folk. They are a island to themselves and their traditions are their life blood.

the whole thing is horrible. we don’t have all the facts, and we’ll never know why this woman did what she did. it would take a whole lot more than messing up on a call (note, she didn’t even give out the personal info- she let the call through, another nurse gave it out), or even being fired (which she was not- the hospital was supporting her), for me as a mom to take my life and abandon my two children. we don’t really even know if this was a suicide yet. for all we know some freak Royal stalker did this and made it look like a suicide. long story short, this is just a horrible story, and we don’t need to set off a lynch mob on the radio pranksters… this will change their lives enough without a mob coming after them with burning sticks. they could’ve never foreseen this, and they won’t ever get over it. even the Royals weren’t all that upset over the info getting out. who cares if the world knows the princess had an uneventful night and hadn’t thrown up recently!?! that wasn’t as bad as the other stuff they’ve been subjected to! people, just calm down. seriously. let the people involved deal with this trauma, and butt out. if you want to be outraged, there are plenty of other more worthy causes to expend your energy on.

Ok, I guess the two DJ’s aren’t laughing now. Where will the line be drawn when it comes to celebs and famous people? This poor woman probably was getting death threats and was probably going to lose her job because the DJ’s wanted to have fun. So sad.

Maybe because she was going to be fired because of it? Imagine losing your job just before Christmas.

Because she probably about to lose her job, and has children. That’s why “IDIOTS” should “THINK” before they mess with peoples lives. They deserve to be fired. This woman probably had no way out, in her mind. So sad. Let her death be a lesson to you bullies out there.

To everyone who uses any social media or use a phone. Please be responsible and think before you prank. Remember, what you do can grow to be famous or it can destroy an innocent life or a career. My heart is sadden to hear about this and will continue to keep the family in my prayers.
