Fans are outraged after Christina attacked Melanie during her critique. Do YOU think Christina was out of line?

Melanie Martinez was left shaken after the Dec. 3 episode of The Voice, as renowned diva Christina Aguilera told Melanie off for not paying attention during her critique. Not cool, Christina!

Adam Levine chose “The Show” by Lenka for Melanie to sing, and she gave a cute performance. Then the judges gave their feedback, which was relatively lukewarm. Blake Shelton noted that it was “definitely different,” while Adam enjoyed the youthfulness of her performance. As for Christina…

While she was critiquing Melanie’s performance, Melanie looked mildly distracted for a brief moment, which prompted Christina to say, “Well, she’s not even looking at me… It’s OK!” followed by a passive aggressive laugh.

That’s not nice, Christina! You were once a fresh-faced newbie trying to make it too!

Fans have taken to Twitter to express their upset, as one Twitter user called @taymalay said “Why is Christina so mean toMelanie? Jealousy?” Another user said “Christina Aguilera was rude last night to Melanie….” We hope Christina learns from this, and is nicer next week!

I agree with Shelly. Christina you have been rude and thoughtless to Melanie during many of the shows and last night was enough. If you want someone to listen to you as a teacher/coach the last thing you do is address them harshly and ALWAYS pick them apart. Christina when one is being dressed down or talked down to it is a natural habit for people to look away, especially when on national TV while you are trying to keep your inter-emotions in check. Something Christina you should have done. Christina you only made yourself look like a losing coach not a talented artist. Christina you should have stuck to what you told the audience at the beginning of the show to just sit back and be entertained. Remember Christina the bulling action of being a mean girl can kill dreams, creativity, respect and innocent lives. Remember people walk and talk about our actions of how we treat others. I for one will express my feelings with my pocket book and not pickup your latest album or go to your next concert.

Big thank you Adam for at least setting it straight on the set design. She is a very special talented young lady that is going to go far. She proved last night that she can do young and older serious songs. Please keep being a great mentor to Melanie.

Everyone is missing the point. For the second time in a row Christina mentioned how great the stage set up because she couldnt find anything to say. How rude is that? Christina is a grown woman. If you do not like Melanies performance then begin to critique and not avoid the situation altogether. If you cant think of anything then pause, say umm repeatedly, talk about strengths, dive into weaknesess. SOMETHING. Dont make it so blatantly obvious that the performance was so lackluster to you personally that you have to resort to talking about the stage. Thats at least the third time shes done that this season. Its unquestionably disrespectful. And its.something Christina tends to do. Of course Melanie turned away are yiu kidding? And before you guys jump on my back, Melanie does struggle. Thats the truth. Also i like Christina. Have since she began singing. And always am behind the risks she takes. Tonight was just rude. Its not what Christina said, its what she couldnt say. In fact were lucky she said much at all. She hardly even holds her head up or even in the direction of Amanda when the judges speak. Its pathetic that so many ppl failed to see that.

Did any of you noticed that Melanie was looking towards Adam right after Christina had finished saying that (a person who’s name i dont recall) had did it again with the set? After Christina was done with her critique (which was very rude in my opinion) Adam made it clear that the set was actually his and Melanie’s idea. So there you go, I beleive Melanie was only looking at Adam to see if he would clarify what Christina had just erroneously pointed out. I think Christina’s comment was uncalled for. She was also so busy praising that young boy she had the hots for…..pathetic.

i would have to say that christina had nothing good to offer with her critiques last night. During both reviews she was more focused on complimenting the set designer, rather than giving melanie good constructive criticism. I thought it was a total bs move on christinas part and very childish. She is there to support the artists, and be a coach. Its evident why her team has been dissolved and it is due to her lack of being a strong leader and doing what she was hired to do. If she wasnt a fan of either song, perhaps say how it could be better. Instead she chose to say how lucky melanie was to have such a great set designer for her songs. “WTF” REALLY? I am having a hard time seeing how that is helpful or remotley offering anything beneficial to anyone.

Melanie wasnt paying attention on the second review for a good reason. She is a 17 year old kid with a long career ahead of her. Give her something constructive.

I lost tons of respect for Christina last night. Total B.

Do you people listen to yourselves. She’s jealous of Melanie because why, the millions of dollars she has, her Grammys, her record sales. Who is Melanie? What exactly does she have to be jealous of. My mother taught me to pay attention when your elders are talking to you. What she was doing was rude and she got called out on it. Do YOU let people ignore you while you’re talking to them. I swear sometimes people are just so ugh. Give me a break! She critiqued the girl so of course that must mean she’s jealous, as if she was undeserving of the critique. She came on a singing show with judging, what did you expect. All season they’ve been lying through their teeth about how good some of these contestants are, and I for one I’m glad someone finally said something.

It wasn’t constructive criticism. Melanie was ignoring her because this isn’t the first time that she has come from a performance for Christina to either compliment the band or the background staging before even addressing melanie as a person. I would never accuse Christina of being jealous of her. Christina has an awesome voice and tons of talent. But she has to remember this is Melanie’s dream and even if you didn’t “like” a particular performance, there were better ways to express it than the words she chose. She just made herself look “mean” and it was very rude of Christina to do what she did first. Melanie may not have the strongest voice of all the performers, but she is there because she is enjoyable and entertaining. I like the way Celo critiques. He has good energy. Christina would do well to learn from him. It’s called being graceful. It’s something learned with age.

I think Christina is not polite to the female singers. She has not given any good feedback on Amanda Brown. Ms Brown can sing her b**t off. Melanie does not have a power voice like the rest of the singers. She is very young and needs to grow up. If Christina had not paid so much attention to Dez she as a coach might still have a singer left in the compentation. Dez voice was ok but not great. Christina has the hots for Dez and it showed. (yuck get someone your age)

Melanie was so impolite, when someone is talking to you, especially an artist and a judge who has the right to judge your performance. It’s called manners if you don’t have them you won’t get far. Christina didn’t even say anything rude, she just commented on the stage and tried so hard not to say anything mean. Plus the show is LIVE, how is someone going to comment something quickly especially if they didn’t like it.

My daughter noticed something about Christina. She never has anything nice
to say about the women singers only the male singers. I went in rewind
for the last 3 episodes. She was right. I think Christina maybe in jealousy mode maybe.

When the Judge always compliments the stage for 2 minutes rather than her performance you would be bored too. I would’ve done the same thing Melanie did. I think you might want to check every time Christina critiques. You’ll realize that she’s not helping Melanie improve at all.

I don’t feel that Christina was rude or mean. It’s not like she said, “Hey. Look at me and pay attention when I’m talking to you”. If you want to be in the entertainment business, you have to be able to take criticism.

Melanie was in the wrong. Christina felt offended because it was rude of Melanie to ignore her – it is a form or disrespect. You don’t ignore Christina, a worldwide superstar whose opinion means something. And Christina is only doing her job, she is doing what she is payed to do. I don’t think anyone owes Christina their attention JUST because Christina is a singer. If you were saving lives and had some sort of authority, sure…they deserve it. She’s just a singer. Christina can’t even focus her critique on the performer! So how about you make sense next time you bring up R-E-S-P-E-C-T. It’s a two way street. I don’t see the big deal here…she gets payed to critique..and she told her that shoe liked her voice but she has to pick songs that fit her voice better… and yes like she said in one part, she takes the time to write down what she’s seeing in order to give good critiques so it think it was kind of rude from melanie to not pay attention… plus shes the only one who gives real opinions on that show…(notice how everyone loves evryone and according to adam everyone has the best performance of the night…)

If I were Melanie, I would’ve ignored Christina too. Christina never compliments Melanie but always compliments the stage set up. WTF?! How insulting! I wouldn’t listen to a damn word she has to say cause it’s got nothing to do with anything. Christina is just pissed cause all of her singers were voted off and none of Christina’s songs on her new album made the top charts. She’s bitter because Melanie’s songs have been on the top charts. Christina, your style is no longer being favored. Get a new style, reinvent yourself, do something different, and stop picking on Melanie just because her style is different from yours. I love Melanie’s soft captivating voice. Christina likes powerful, almost yelling sounds (today’s pop). It’s nice to be able to hear the words in a song. She just doesn’t appear to like Melanie’s sound and hasn’t been very nice or supportive the whole show.

I completely agree. Nicely said. Melanie has her own particular style as does Nicholas Davis (who they rave about) and i don’t see him going against his style, yet she doesn’t offer anything constructive for Melanie. At the end of the of her last critique she did offer something up suggesting Fiona Apple or something similar. I just don’t understand why she didn’t lead off with that, instead of refering to the set or back up band like she has on two different occasions. This girl just sang for them and all she can do is compliment the band and stage scenery? “That” is rude. Why should Melanie listen to her compliments of the staging and back up band? It wasn’t her Christina was speaking about. I would have tuned her out too. She decided to look at Adam who probably mouthed to her that her performance was fine. Celo has a good energy.
