The Kansas City Chiefs linebacker left his daughter Zoe, 3 months, an orphan after he killed his girlfriend and himself on Dec. 1. Now grandma Cheryl Shepherd will be the infant’s guardian.
Jovan Belcher‘s mom Cheryl Shepard will care for her 3-month-old granddaughter Zoe after the Kansas City Chiefs player shot and killed his girlfriend Kasandra Perkins, 22, on Dec. 1 before taking his own life later at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City, Mo.
Cheryl’s relatives told the New York Post on Dec. 2 that she will care for her infant granddaughter back at the Long Island home where she lives and where Jovan, 25, grew up.
She was in town to help care for Zoe, and watched as her son fatally shot his on-again, off-again girlfriend Kassandra. She then called 911 as he fled the house.
Jovan went to his team’s stadium and spoke to his head coach and general manager before he shot and killed himself in front of them.
“She’s taking it as anyone else would’ve taken it,” Jovan’s cousin Eric Oakes, 20, told the New York Post about Cheryl. “She just lost a son. We’re all coming together.”
What do YOU think of Cheryl caring for little Zoe HollyMoms?

how is she gonna explain, to her grand daughter what happened to her parents. How can she protect her from ppl telling her before she thinks the child is ready to hear it. Though it helps that the child is a baby and he was not as famous as other players, there will be ppl who knew him, and will tell her.
I wonder at the grief tinged with bitterness his gf family must be feeling right now. Will that bitterness seep into the relationship they create with the child and grandmother. Will any of them, tell her that daddy killed mummy and expect her to pledge allegiance to their side.
i know there is time to sort it out, she is just three months and will never have any memory of her parents. Just what she will be told
