Three years after his very public cheating scandal, David and his wife Regina made their first public appearance at the Kennedy Center Honors gala on Dec. 1. Have they finally put the past behind them?
David Letterman and his wife Regina Lasko looked more in love than ever when they attended the Kennedy Center Honors gala in Washington D.C., where David was feted for his contribution to American culture. In 2009, David was at the centre of a media scandal when he admitted that he had an affair with his assistant Stephanie Birkitt. David and Regina have rarely been seen together since, but it now looks like Regina has finally forgiven the talk show host.
In 2009, David was forced to make a very public apology to his wife, when his former co-worker Robert Halderman tried to blackmail him. Robert had been a staff member of The David Letterman Show who was aware of David and Stephanie’s relationship, and he tried to extort David in return for silence. David did not give in to his demands, and instead made an on-air apology. Robert was later tried for his crimes.
David and Regina have a 9-year-old son together, and they have spent three years trying to rebuild their shattered marriage. David said post-affair: “It was stupid behavior. And you take a look at the explosion, and it knocks you down and you wake up every morning and you’re scared and you’re depressed and sad, and you kind of got to let that knock you down and knock you down.”
We think its great that David and his wife have gotten past the scandal, and they seem really happy.
What do YOU think HollywoodLifers? Do you think Regina was right to forgive David?
