Surfing Legend Tom Curren Shines With Debut EP Summerland Road

After years of touring and working with artists such as Jackson Browne and Donovan Frankenreiter, surfing icon Tom Curren has released his own debut EP Summerland Road. Recorded at The Village studios in Los Angeles, the EP precedes a full-length album to be released early in 2013. And had the chance to speak with the surfing icon about his new music! Check it out!

The raw and gritty sounds of Tom Curren‘s music takes you to a place most music doesn’t obtain, as it makes sure to gain your full attention from start to finish. With his current EP and single Summerland Road, we all get a taste of what Tom’s music stylings are as it leaves you filled with good vibes but also has you yearning for more. Which is only a good thing since his full album will be available in early 2013. was able to talk to the shy and reclusive genius as we delved into what makes his music tick!

When asked what his music was like, Tom told EXCLUSIVELY, “Its pretty much guitar driven, pop rock or folk rock. It is kind of bluesy guitar, and the focus for me is the songwriting, it might not be mainstream but it is pretty accessible!” And as for inspirations, he doesn’t shy away from some incredible musicians mentioning, “Van Morrison comes to mind! The Eagles and Bruce Springsteen and people like that!”

Most known as one of the most influential surfers of all time, music seems to be Tom’s ultimate love and now that he has that outlet, its now the benefit of us all to hear his amazing music! And he is also interested in doing covers saying, “Send One Your Love by Stevie Wonder is such a good song and the benefit with having a great band you have the opportunity to tackle some great songs and covers. There is so many good songs out there that I would love to do!”

Now back to the album, the four-song EP was produced by the highly regarded John Alagia, who regularly works with such artists as Dave Matthews, Jason Mraz, and John Mayer. Alagia heard Curren’s music last summer when Curren was touring, was captivated by its unique sound. Alagia brought in a number of world-class musicians to play on the project, including another legendary figure: Jim Keltner, famed drummer to Eric Clapton and John Lennon.
