A grisly freak accident has left a Utah girl brain dead and her family facing a horrible choice.
An 11-year old Utah girl has been declared brain dead after she was impaled in a freak accident. Nikki Clark was playing on her own front porch in Pleasantview, Utah, when she stumbled and somehow impaled herself on a metal pole left in the yard. After doctors declared her brain dead on Monday, Nov. 19, her family has announced they will remove her from life support.
According to the family, the rod nicked her spine and exited through her neck. Compounding the gruesome injury, doctors say Nikki ran inside after the accident and pulled out the pole, causing massive blood loss and leading to additional brain damage.
Doctors attempted several surgeries but were unable to revive Nikki.
“It’s a bad time of year, and especially for a child. You wouldn’t wish that on anyone and for that to be happening to us, it’s hard,” a family spokesperson told reporters.
In addition to the tragedy, Nikki’s family faces massive medical bills. A relief fund has been set up at a local bank.
