Our three-night election week Voice live playoffs extravaganza came to a close tonight, as Carson Daly announced which artists America voted into safety, forcing coaches Christina Aguilera, Adam Levine, Cee Lo Green, and Blake Shelton to make the agonizing decision of which two singers on their team to send home. It was a tough night, folks!
Before we could send anyone from Team Adam home, they all got the chance to sing Kelly Clarkson‘s “Stronger” with Team Blake. Afterwards, Carson announced first that America saved Amanda Brown, followed by a save for Bryan Keith. This left Adam to choose between Melanie Martinez, Loren Allred, and Joselyn Rivera. He told the three remaining girls that no one was better than the other, but ultimately decided to keep Melanie. I think Adam made the right call, but Loren definitely should’ve been saved over Bryan. Way to go, America! After sending two singers home to face oblivion, Adam performed his new single “Daylight” with Maroon 5, reminding them of what they’ll never have. So sad.
Before anyone on Team Blake went home, we were graced with a performance by season two winner, and former Team Blake member Jermaine Paul. He performed his clunkily-named new single “I Believe In This Life,” which was mostly an Usher performance, minus the stellar dance moves. After that, the first to be saved by America was Scot rocker Terry McDermott, followed by Cassadee Pope, leaving Blake to choose from Liz Davis, Michaela Paige, and Julio Cesar Castillo to save. Blake says all three could go on to win it, but he follows his heart and keep Michaela around. Did you notice how Julio couldn’t wait to get off that stage? Poor guy.
Before Team XTina’s results, her team and Team Cee Lo got the chance to sing one last time, on Train’s “Drive By.” Afterwards, Carson says that America awarded the most votes to Dez Duron, which may be unwarranted, but not unsurprising. The second singer saved by America was Sylvia Yacoub, who earned her place wholeheartedly last night. Christina had to choose from De’borah, Devyn DeLoera, and Adriana Louise for the final spot on her team — opting to save Adriana. It’s a shame that we don’t get to see De’borah do much more, but hopefully she’ll take XTina’s advice and keep fighting to make it!
America’s first save goes to Trevin Hunte, as everyone knew it would. The second singer saved was Nicholas David, which shocked me, I won’t lie. Cee Lo was left to choose from Mackenzie Bourg, Cody Belew, and Diego Val. My favorite of the three was Cody, and Cee Lo agreed, saving the charismatic singer on ground of improvement. Great choice, Cee Lo!
