The rambunctious 7-year-old reached celebrity status nearly overnight thanks to her show ‘Here Comes Honey Boo Boo,’ but a psychiatrist claims she’s not prepared to handle all the attention!
Alana “Honey Boo Boo“ Thompson gained millions of viewers on her TLC show Here Comes Honey Boo Boo, thanks in part to her outspoken personality and her family’s wild antics. But the resulting celebrity phenomenon could be doing more harm than good.
On her whirlwind press tour in Los Angeles, Alana could hardly pay attention during appearances on Jimmy Kimmel Live and Access Hollywood.
But it was her spot on Dr. Drew‘s HLN show that drew a major red flag. She avoided his questions, pretended to fall asleep, and only answered when coaxed by her mom Mama June Shannon – and then said she “hates” being on TV because fans bother her.
Some believe she is too young to handle the onslaught of media attention — and it’s starting to take a serious toll.
Psychiatrist Dr. Charles Sophy told InTouch magazine that she’s “clearly sending signals that she’s overwhelmed.”
But it looks like Mama June has no signs of slowing the family down.
“June has always had a reputation for exploiting celebrity,” a source in the family’s town told the magazine. “Now it’s worse than ever.”
