Plus, Arizona & Callie finally make progress in their relationship! Is all finally right with the world?
Avery’s (Jesse Williams) mother, Catherine (Debbie Allen), returned to Seattle Grace Mercy West on the Oct. 25 episode of Grey’s Anatomy to assist on a special surgery — but she wasn’t the only one back at the hospital! Arizona (Jessica Capshaw) also returned to be fitted for her prosthetic leg. And although it seemed Arizona was taking a positive step in the right direction, she still had a difficult time adjusting to her new life.
Catherine joined the Chief (James Pickens Jr.) to treat a man with extremely swollen testicles — “Those aren’t basketballs in my pockets” — and while they totally picked up right where they left off with their budding romance, they tried their hardest to hide it from the rest of the doctors. Of course, it’s impossible to keep any type of romance under wraps at Seattle Grace Mercy West, so they were quickly found out by everyone, including Catherine’s son Avery. (Yikes!) But no worries; Avery got out his frustration with a little quality on-call room time with April (Sarah Drew).
Since his hand still hasn’t fully healed, Derek (Patrick Dempsey) spent his time in the classroom instructing interns, while Meredith (Ellen Pompeo) worked on a case involving an extremely rare tumor. In an attempt to make him feel better about not being able to operate, she kept her surgery a secret from him — even when she was miraculously successful in removing the tumor!
Cristina (Sandra Oh) officially put Owen (Kevin McKidd) behind her by jumping into bed with Dr. Parker (Steven Culp), who coincidentally is also her supervisor. (Cristina definitely has a type!) But that didn’t last long when Cristina discovered her new beau was wrongfully trying to force fellow surgeon Dr. Thomas (William Daniels) to retire because of his old age and stubborn attitude. To spite Dr. Parker, Cristina convinced Dr. Thomas to use a more modern procedure, and much to Dr. Parker’s dismay, he was successful.
Meanwhile, Bailey (Chandra Wilson) seemed to be the only one without major problems in her life. In fact, her biggest concern was trying to find a surgery! After scavenging like a vulture, she tagged along with the Chief and Catherine on their super-size scrotum surgery and seemed happier than ever. And we all love a happy Dr. Bailey!
While Arizona struggled with her new leg, Alex (Justin Chambers) shared a few encouraging words. His pep talk seemed to actually have an effect, because Arizona extended the olive branch to Callie for the first time since the accident by inviting her to stay and watch TV with her!
Now that Cristina is gone and officially moving on, Owen decided to take refuge at Derek’s trailer in the woods, which we all know is the place where all the Seattle Grace men go to solve their problems.
(Hopefully, Owen will be as successful as the others.)
