It’s official! A judge ruled that the presidential candidate’s alleged false testimony during Maureen Sullivan Stemberg’s divorce trial, which left her broke and homeless, will be released to ‘The Boston Globe.’
Will Mitt Romney’s bid to become President of the United States be crippled once the candidate’s alleged false testimony from a friend’s divorce trial is released to The Boston Globe? Judge Jennifer Ulwick has ruled in favor of the Globe’s request to release the documents.
Mitt, 65, has been accused of lying in court by his best friend’s ex-wife, TMZ reports. Romney testified under oath during the 1987 divorce trial of his close friend Staples founder Tom Stemberg. Tom’s ex-wife Maureen Sullivan Stemberg now claims that Romney intentionally undervalued the worth of the company in order to prevent her from getting a fair financial settlement during in the divorce. Maureen now is being represented by celebrity attorney Gloria Allred.
An attorney for The Boston Globe was successful in convincing Judge Ulwick to release the sealed divorce documents. The documents are now expected to be released to the newspaper monemtarily and other media outlets will be allowed access as well. This is a big win for the paper and a potential giant headache for Mitt. However, Mitt’s attorney Robert Jones has said ” this is a decades old divorce case in which Mitt provided testimony as to the value of a company he has no objection to letting the public see that testimony.”
Allred also appeared with Maureen in the same Boston court today, Oct. 25, but the judge turned down her request to lift a previous gag order on Maureen because Allred had not submitted an official motion to the court. However Allred was thrilled that the divorce documents would be made public.
“It is in the public’s right to know what The Boston Globe is seeking. The public can draw their own conclusions from it,” Gloria said in court.
As a result of Mitt’s testimony, Maureen was left in financial ruin and lost her home, she has said. Meanwhile, Mitt and Tom cashed their stock out from Staples, just weeks later and made a small fortune — proving that there WAS value in the company.
This case gets even more heartbreaking, considering that Maureen suffers from MS and was stricken by cancer. Her ex-husband Tom Stemberg canceled her health insurance in the midst of her cancer treatments. Ironically, this happened as he was working as a chief health care adviser to Mitt, when he was the governor of Massachusetts. But that’s all he did. He also obtained custody of the couple’s son by alleging that Maureen had abused the child and then disowned the child after the divorce drama. Nice guy. Mitt — nice friends you have.

I am just amazed that a person that claims biological facts and opinions from the middle ages is supported by so many people. It leads me to believe that Americans in general are stupid, otherwise I cannot explain that a candidate for president (romney) can interfere with the liberty of the people stated in the Declaration of Independence and still run for a president. It is pointless to discuss wether he is lying or not when it is so obvious that he does. It makes you even think that American people want to be lied to. At least if they are fighting for the rights of the unborn then maybe, just maybe they should make the life easier for the ones that are already born. I wonder what would be the next step: burning people for witch craft, or executing people for their different opinions?
Obama has a plan and he knows what he is talking about. I believe that if it was not for the enormous opposition that he received from the republicans in general he would had much more success in turning this crisis around. Again, a shame to see this when everyone in this country should be concentrating on getting us out of the economical hole. Even if the opinions are different there should be at least respect for the humans. Yes I will be voting for Obama simply because I know he will at least try to turn things around.
