After 14-year-old Malala Yousafzai was gunned down by the Taliban for promoting girls’ education, Selena took her position as UNICEF Ambassador to spread awareness of Malala’s story and children’s right to education.

Malala Yousafzai captivated the world after she was brutally gunned down by the Taliban on the grounds of her Pakistani girls school for speaking out against the militia group, and her activism for girls’ education. As a UNICEF Ambassador, Selena Gomez is lending her star power to show support of the brave 14-year-old girl.

“Please honor Malala Yousafzai by spreading her message of children’s right to an education #StandWithMalala,” Selena tweeted on Oct. 12.

Selena was appointed as an ambassador for UNICEF in 2009 to promote early childhood education and development, and is now using Malala’s brave story to spread awareness.

Other celebs showed their support for Malala, including Nas, Ewan McGregor, and Lana del Ray. And many of Selena’s fans changed their twitter profile pic to one of Malala and tweeted out their support.

“Thank you for spreading the word. Love you,” @WeasleyPride wrote in reply to Selena.

Malala remains stable in the U.K. hospital where she is currently being treated for the gunshot wounds she suffered to her head and neck. She was flown from Pakistan after medical professionals believed she would receive better care in England.

On Oct. 9, the 14-year-old was shot at point-blank range for speaking out against the Taliban and promoting the education of young girls — she blogged about her views for an award-winning blog for the BBC under a pen name. The Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) have taken responsibility for the shootings, and have promised to target her again if she survives the attack.

What do YOU think of Selena supporting Malala HollyMoms?

LOOK DEAR TALIBAN: YOU PEOPLE ARE PLANING AND KILLING INNOCENT PEOPLE AND GOD/ALLAH SAVE THEM LIKE MALALA, YOU WISH ENFORCE YOUR WRONG IDEALOGY ON POOR PEOPLE BUT YOU HAVE BEEN CHALLANGED BY A POOR SMALL GIRL AND YOU SCARED OF HER AND SHOT HER AT HEAD BUT GOD/ALLAH SAVED HER AND NOW LOOK THE WHOLE WORLD IS AGAINST YOU.
SO BEING A TRUE MUSLIM, I APEAL TO ALL OF YOU TO DROP THE GUNS AND STOP KILLING INNOCENT PEOPLE AND DESTROYING SCHOOLS.
BECOME A GOOD CITIZEN AND START LABOUR WORK INSTEAD OF KILLING

I must point out that Malala Yousufzai lived in Swat valley , a tribal area in northern parts of Pakistan, which was under the control of the Taliban previously, where people still possess old school thinking *(mainly that a women’s sole place is being at home)*. Other than a few northern areas,Pakistan is a well developed country with well educated individuals. This artcile wrongly potrays the image of Pakistan , showing us to be a backward country , when in reality most of youth of pakistan is well educated like that of Britain, USA etc. Sure we have our problems, but what country doesn’t?
