The beautiful star took her light locks to the dark side recently and now you can too! Here tips from colorist Joanna Pinto of Pierre Michel Salon in NYC on how to go from blonde to brunette for fall.

Going as drastic as Jennifer Lawrence , 22, requires a gentle hand. “If you are a blond, my recommendation is to do it gradually,” says Joanna Pinto of Pierre Michel. “Start by having your hairdresser infuse a full head of low lights. The low lights will give the hair dimension and make it look richer without being too much of a shock. For even more depth go for a darker toner. Toners are great because they rinse out, so if you want to go light again, you can do so without compromising the integrity of the hair.”

Joanna says considering your skin tone is really important when picking a new shade.  “If you have an olive or dark complexion with dark eyes, warmer shades (gold, chestnut, honey) work best. If your skin has pink tones, neutral hues like chocolate are flattering. Pale skin works well with any tone,” says Joanna.

Making a serious hair change can be amazing, but it’s also a big commitment. “You should be 100% ready and sure that you want to go dark,” says Joanna. “I recommend going to a beauty supply store and trying on a wig or hair piece in the shade you are considering to see if it works for you.”
