In last night’s (Oct. 11) Vice Presidential debate, Joe Biden and Paul Ryan spoke out on their completely different viewpoints and policies on abortion. If elected, their policies will affect YOU. Here’s where they stand. Read and tell me what you think.
Vice President Joe Biden and Paul Ryan, the Representative for Wisconsin’s 1st congressional district who is Mitt Romney‘s running mate, were grilled about their stances on abortion, by moderator Martha Raddatz during their Vice-Presidential debate, and it turns out that, their policies couldn’t be more different.
Now Hollywoodlifers as women, you could be seriously impacted by their policies if they’re elected so it’s important to know what they’ll each do.
Here’s what Paul Ryan, who believes that “life begins at conception” had to say at the debate: ‘ The policy of a Romney administration will be to oppose abortion with the exceptions for rape, incest and life of the mother,” he announced. Plus, he says that he and Mitt Romney feel so strongly about their apposition to abortion, that he thinks abortions should be restricted through legislation and not by judges deciding whether abortion is a constitutional right, which it has been in the past. The Supreme Court famously ruled in 1973 in the Roe V. Wade case, that the right for a woman to have an abortion was protected under the constitution.
The Mitt Romney/ Paul Ryan Position
“We don’t think that unelected judges should make this decision; that people, through their elected representatives and reaching a consensus in society through the democratic process, should make this determination,” Ryan explained.
So HollywoodLifers, the Romney/Ryan position is very clear: abortion should be made illegal through new laws, except in the cases of rape, incest or if the health of the mother is threatened.
Now, Joe Biden articulated that he and President Obama have have THE opposite view on abortion: While he also believes that “life begins at conception. That’s the church’s judgement. I accept it in my personal life,” he was very clear that he didn’t want to impose his own personal beliefs on women.” I refuse to impose it on equally devout Christians and Muslims and Jews and — I just refuse to impose that on others…I don’t believe that we have a right to tell other people that women, they — they can’t control their body. It’s a decision between them and their doctor, in my view. And the Supreme Court — I’m not going to interfere with that,” he explained.
Where President Obama Stands
President Obama has also spoken out in support of a woman’s right to choose saying,”I remain committed to protecting a woman’s right to choose and this fundamental constitutional right,” he has said.
So there you have it, HollywoodLifers. President Obama and Vice President Joe Biden will protect a woman’s right to choose. Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan will seek to outlaw abortion across the country except in cases of rape, incest or if the life of the mother is threatened.
