The former Cincinnati Bengals cheerleader pled guilty on Oct. 8 to having sex with a 17-year-old student while she was a teacher at a Kentucky high school. As part of her plea deal, she will not serve jail time or register as a sex offender.
Sarah Jones, a 27-year-old former NFL cheerleader, admitted in court on Oct. 9 to having sex with one of her underage students while she was a teacher at Dixie Heights High School. She left the courtroom hand-in-hand with the victim, who is now 18 years old.
Sarah pled guilty to custodial interference and sexual misconduct instead of more serious charges, which would have sent her to prison. She also does not have to register as a sex offender, but will have to undergo probation and drug tests.
“I began a romantic relationship while he was a student and I was in a position of authority,” she said in court.
Although she walked out of court holding hands with the victim, her lawyer would not comment on their current relationship.
The former teacher was indicted in March on charges of first-degree sexual abuse and unlawful use of electronic means to induce a minor to engage in sexual or other prohibited acts, charges that stem from an investigation of Sarah while she was teaching in Kentucky in November 2011.
Defense attorney Eric Deters said one of the reasons Sarah was willing to plead guilty was because the judge had denied his request to keep the text messages that she sent to the teen out of the trial.
“They’re embarrassing,” he told reporters after the hearing. “They were steamy.”
