The ‘Pregnant in Heels’ star revealed to HollyBaby.com exclusively why so many women struggle to lose weight after having a baby, and her one secret to help shed the pounds for good.
As a maternity concierge, star of the hit Bravo show Pregnant in Heels, and a mom of three, Rosie Pope knows a thing or two about being pregnant. After consulting hundreds of women throughout her career, Rosie has figured out the key to best health after baby.
“Weight gain and loss is so emotional, and you have to be in a good place emotionally before you lose the weight after you’ve had a baby,” she told HollyBaby.com EXCLUSIVELY at the launch of her book Mommy IQ on Oct. 2 at Destination Maternity in NYC.
Rosie, who is a mom to J.R., 3, Wellington, 15 months, and Vivenne, 5 months, also pointed out that while being a mommy is an amazing experience, your world is turned upside down right after welcoming a baby — the added stress and perhaps postpartum depression could lead to a vicious cycle of overeating and feeling bad about it.
“First and foremost, get yourself in a good mental state, and then get in a physical state,” she said.
But that doesn’t mean pregnant women should beat themselves up worrying about getting back in shape while they’re still expecting. Rosie said pregnancy should be a reason to indulge — just still eat healthfully and don’t go overboard with the bad-for-you stuff.
“For me, [pregnancy] was a really nice opportunity to go to a restaurant and know that I could order whatever I wanted,” Rosie she said. “Enjoy it. And [after you give birth], you’re much more likely to go back on your diet.”
