Sam has come out of the closet and announced his engagement to Rubem! Congrats to them both!
The forecast for Good Morning America weather anchor Sam Champion‘s love life sure is a positive one! He’s just announced his engagement to Rubem Robierb.
ABC News announced the great news on Friday, Oct. 5. In a statement, Sam, 51, said, “We are thrilled and so excited, and thank everyone for their good wishes.” Rubem is a Miami-based, Brazilian fine-arts photographer whom Sam met through mutual friends a few years ago.
Sam also tweeted his excitement, saying, “I’ve never been happier to share a bit of personal news!!”
Sam first publicly acknowledged his sexuality with a New York Times reporter, while at a colleague’s wedding. In the ensuing article, which ran online on Oct. 5 as well, Sam says, “We’re getting married New Year’s Eve in Miami.” Rubem corrects him, saying, “We’ll do it here [in New York] officially, and then have a party in Miami.”
