‘Glee’s ‘Break Up’ Episode Is Just What The Show Needed

In last night’s episode of ‘Glee,’ there were major shake-ups to almost every romantic relationship on the show — which is exactly the injection of drama the show’s needed! Read on to find out why.

The Thursday, Oct. 4 episode of Glee, aptly entitled “The Break Up,” saw the end of Rachel (Lea Michele) and Finn (Cory Monteith), Kurt (Chris Colfer) and Blaine (Darren Criss), and Santana (Naya Rivera) and Brittany (Heather Morris). To say the episode was an emotional bloodbath is putting it lightly. But this sort of intense drama is exactly the sort of thing the show needed, going into its fourth season!

As fans of the couples, of course we want to see them remain happy. We’ve rooted for them to get together for years, so it’s only natural that we’d want them to make it work. But watching a bunch of happy couples would get pretty boring, wouldn’t it?

By tearing these characters apart, it creates so many opportunities for us to follow them down unexpected paths. By freeing Rachel up from Finn, it allows her to fully blossom in her new life in NYC — and it also provides for more shirtless moments with hunky Brody (Dean Geyer)! Similarly, separating Kurt from Blaine allows Kurt to dive fully into his new NYC life, too.

Finn’s New Path

For Finn, it allows the character to finally come to terms with his own path in life. For so long, he’s hitched himself a ride on Rachel’s star. It’s time for him to find his own place in the world — and he needs to be single to do that.

Brittany & Sam’s Chemistry

And by ripping Brittany and Santana apart, it allows the writers to see if the surprisingly affecting chemistry between Brittany and Sam (Chord Overstreet) is something more than just a friendship.

Essentially, there is more room for Glee to expand its world — which is exactly what it needs to do in this important transitional season. I’m looking forward to seeing where this season, with all its possibilities, takes us!

Do you think all these break-ups were a good move for Glee, HollywoodLifers?

Wow really about Sam and Brittany? You guys are so desperate for site hits. They never spoke for 2 seasons but then he suddenly Gets her, and 1 episode later knows all the right things to say. Gimme a break. Last episode proved Heather SHINES when acting together with Naya. Girl was on FIRE. Chord and Heather are good friends and it shows. But it is clear we are seeing CHORD and HEATHER on screen and not the characters. This is probably related to the poor “development” of the “friendship”. +++ they dumb sam down +++ they copy brittana w Sam getting her etc. +++ they are more dull as a potential couple cause u are making them clones of each other. Flowers in the attic comes to mind. They would benefit much more from just letting Glee having an actual girl/guy friendship instead of turning everything into a romance if possible.
