Oakland A’s baseball pitcher Pat Neshek’s joy of welcoming his first son on Oct. 2 turned tragic when his baby boy Gehrig John Neshek died less than 24 hours after being born. The cause of death is unknown — read on for more of the tragic details.
Pat Neshek, pitcher for the Oakland A’s, and his wife Stephanee Neshek were thrilled to welcome their first son into the world on Oct. 2, right on the heels of his MLB team making the playoffs. But just 23 short hours later, baby Gehrig John Neshek died in his mother’s arms with no medical explanation.
“Please pray for my family. Tonight my wife & I lost our first & only son 23 hours after he was born with no explanation,” Pat tweeted on Oct. 3, just hours after his timeline of happy tweets welcoming his son into the world.
“Thinking of the long nights in AAA, my TJ surgery & the days when I thought it was over..Makes this the sweetest playoff birth of my career!” he wrote just hours before his son was born.
His wife also joined in on sharing the good news with Twitter followers, and was happy to show off the first minutes of her baby’s life.
“It’s a boy Gehrig John Neshek…8 lbs 5 oz, born 10/2/12. Pat flew Oakland to FL just in time for birth! #playoffbaby” she wrote on Oct. 1 along with the photo of the family together.
The family photo, with mom cuddling a wide-eyed baby Gehrig in his swaddling blanket and a smiling dad, was just happy snapshot before tragedy struck less than a day later. Within 23 short hours, Gehirg was inexplicably lifeless. The couple shared their tragedy with the world.
“There was no cause of death and I am having trouble understanding why God can let such a thing happen an innocent being,” Stephanee tweeted.
According to ABC news, an autopsy is being performed on Gehrig, which will hopefully provide answers to the grief-stricken family.

It was probably caused by the vaccinations received after birth. They can react differently in every individual. I obviously am not claming to know this for sure, but in other cases when deaths like this have occurred that has been the case. My prayers are with the family.
