E.L. James Tells Katie Couric How ‘Twilight’ Inspired ‘Fifty Shades of Grey’

E.L. James appeared on the Sept. 17 episode of ‘Katie’ — revealing intimate details about her hit trilogy ‘Fifty Shades of Grey’ and how ‘Twilight’ inspired her to write the best-selling series. Read on for more details!

Fifty Shades of Grey author E.L. James admitted to Katie Couric on Katie that The Twilight Saga inspired her to write the hit trilogy that’s sold 25 million copies since April!

“Well, it all started way back in the day when I saw ‘Twilight,’ the film, and I loved those books — I could not put [them] down, absolutely avidly read the books,” E.L. James told Katie.

“This switch was flipped. I had to write — started writing, wrote a novel, then I discovered fan fiction,” the author continued. ”[I] wrote about Edward and Bella and then decided to write about Christian and Anastasia. I took the fan [fiction], and a friend of mine re-wrote it and I thought — if he could do it, so could I, and now I am here.”

Can you believe it? E.L. James got her inspiration for Fifty Shades of Grey from our favorite book series The Twilight Saga!

I think Ms. James got her book ideas from the movie The Secretary. Except the movie was very good and her book was badly written. Please don’t link anything about your book with the Twilight saga because Twilight was exceptionally written compared to your book.

You are right alexandria! Since ms. James was inspired by twilight, certainly it includes the character of bella and edward. So, why not make them both cast on your film ms. James. Sure, millions of fans and adults look forward to watch them in different story together.

I’m in love with Christian and Anastasia, are two contrasting characters….
you had made me remember of my youth, they are intense and soft,
When i started to read your books,
I thought Ryan Gosling actor as Christian,
If I read more, I imagine Ryan in the character, anyway, also
I’ve noticed the inspiration of the Twilight characters in your work,
you use words, actions, thinks, expression, etc of Twilight. and
i like it, this make special the story, very hard story but at the same time very romantic, and sweet, with moral values.
I congratulate the agility that is written, i laught much, and I liked.

Really, this site is just now figuring out that the “50 Shades” characters were based off of the Twilight characters? That tidbit has been discussed ad nauseaum in EVERY interview since the book became a success. And millions, (yes I wrote millions), of Twilight fanfiction writers have talked about this for OVER two years. Where have YOU been?
