On the last night of premiere week for season three of ‘The Voice,’ sexy Domo has Cee Lo practically salivating, while angelic contestant Nicole Nelson sends chills down everyone’s spines! What did you think of tonight’s show?
We’ve finally reached the end of three full nights of The Voice and, while tonight was certainly a mixed bag in terms of talent, there were a few standouts who are sure to be around the competition for a while –namely, Nicole Nelson. Meanwhile, Domo, and coach Cee Lo Green‘s reaction to her, stood out for all the wrong reasons.
Self-proclaimed hippie Nicole, who lives in an old shoe factory, closed out the night with a stirring rendition of “Hallelujah” by Leonard Cohen. Now, this song has become quite a cliche with singing competitions, I’ll admit, but Nicole brought a quiet beauty to the song that had each of the judges spinning in their chairs. She’s going to be one to watch as the season progresses, for sure. After admitting that she came out on stage planning to team with Blake Shelton, she went with Adam Levine in the end.
Domo from the Bronx came out just before Nicolle and, boy, the differences were like night and day. Domo proclaimed herself to be like Lady Gaga in China and was very, very over the top. She sang “Don’t Cha” by the Pussycat Dolls, a song Cee Lo wrote. She had a good voice, I won’t deny that, but there were something about her performance that was so inauthentic and forced that I couldn’t really get into it. Cee Lo did, though, as he was the only judge to turn (and immediately, at that!). Maybe he can tone her down and make her more relatable, but judging by the way he responded to her audition, I doubt it. As Adam tastefully, “Cee Lo is currently in heat. Stay away.” Indeed.
Another great audition tonight, for me, was Nelly’s Echo, though I wish he’d just go by his actual name, Nelson. Nelly sang Bill Withers‘ “Ain’t No Sunshine” while accompanying himself on the guitar and the Nigerian refugee sang beautifully! Christina Aguilera and Adam fought over him, but he eventually chose X-Tina because she turned around for him first.
Team Line-Ups After Week One
At the end of the first week, Team Adam added Nicole, surprisingly good reggae singer Samuel Mouton, and Loren Allred (whom we saw sing “When Love Takes Over” for a brief second) to his team consisting of power-pop singer Joe Kirkland and frontrunner Bryan Keith.
Team Blake adds mother-daughter country duo 2Steel Girls, who sang a pretty bland version of Carrie Underwood‘s “Before He Cheats,” to his already existing team of Latin powerhouse Julio Castillo, wrestler Casey Muessigmann, Scottish rocker Terry McDermott, and country queen Gracia Harrison.
Team Cee Lo adds only over-the-top Domo to the pre-existing line-up of blues cutie Mackenzie Bourg, Jamaica Queens-raised Trevin Hunte, and Daniel Rosa, competing for a second time.
Team X-Tina adds Nelly’s Echo, briefly seen Lisa Scinta, and even more briefly seen MarissaAnn to a team that’s made up of Aquile, kidnapping victim Adriana Louise, pitchy Devyn Deleora, and quirky De’borah.
What do you think of the teams so far, HollywoodLifers? Is there one that is clearly stronger than the rest? Anyone stand out to you tonight? Are you looking forward to the rest of the season? Let me know in the comments below!
