One of Grey’s Anatomy’s defining couples will exchange “I dos” during season 9 of the long-running hit ABC drama!
“We are going to have a wedding this season,” creator Shonda Rhimes confirmed to HollywoodLife.com’s sister site TVLine. “But that’s all I’m going to say.”
After season eight ended with a plane crash, the death of Lexie Grey (Chyler Leigh) and the impending departure of McSteamy (Eric Dane), a wedding would certainly be a sight for sore eyes.
Derek/Meredith, Cristina/Owen, and Callie/Arizona have all celebrated their own nuptials prior to season nine, leaving Ben/Bailey, Jackson/April, Alex, and possibly the Chief and Jackson’s mom Catherine (Debbie Allen) as possible contenders (Remember — Adele’s ongoing battle with Alzheimer’s could pave way for Richard to enter a new marriage).
Shonda added that Alex will finally move on from Izzie (Katherine Heigl) saying, “I feel like it’s time. We’re going to watch Alex really grow up and step up this season and find real love with somebody who doesn’t leave him for once.”

Katheren should come back. To show what happened, she could have gotten very sick from treatments and been unable to return, and after becoming healthier thought it was too late. After hearing of the crash she could have returned to show her love for her friends and to ask alex for forgiviness. Even if they do not rekindle their romance. It was not a realistic sending off as she could have and should have been written in to return after the shooting at the hospital way back… I think the producer and writers should consider it.
