Kanye may be in talks with ‘American Idol,’ as a new report indicates, but as a source close to the show reveals to HollywoodLife.com EXCLUSIVELY, it’s highly unlikely he’ll be sitting at the judges table next season! Read on for the inside scoop.
American Idol has been scrambling to fill their recently-vacated judges chairs, with a steady stream of celebrity names being rumored to be in consideration. TMZ reports that Kanye West is the latest musician to be in talks with the show, but a source tells us that the rapper joining the show is highly unlikely.
A source close to the show tells HollywoodLife.com exclusively that, while Kanye was asked to be a part of the show as a judge, the chances are very slim based on money. According to TMZ’s report, sources say the show would have to match new judge Mariah Carey‘s salary of $18 million, “at least.” Our source says, “The chances right now for Kanye is highly unlikely to be a judge on the show. As a mentor or a performance during the season, that is definitely the most likely scenario, if anything.”
As for the constant flow of names in consideration, our source tells us that executive producer Nigel Lythgoe is releasing them all himself. “Nigel threw this info out there along with other names as he actually wants it to be a secret on who actually gets picked and is now just throwing out names to get people off the scent of the likely judges to be picked,” our source says. Tricky!
