
The actors have spoken out about the director’s reported suicide, offering condolences & expressing their sadness. Read on for his full statement.
Tony Scott helped make Tom Cruise a star with their 1986 film, Top Gun. Following Tony’s devastating suicide on Aug. 19, Tom has spoken about his personal loss, as well as the film community’s loss.
In a statement, Tom, 50, says, “Tony was my dear friend and I really will miss him. He was a creative visionary whose mark on film is immeasurable. My deepest sorrow and thoughts are with his family at this time.”
Denzel Washington, who starred five of Tony’s movies — Crimson Tide, Déjà Vu, Man on Fire, The Taking of Pelham 1 2 3 and Unstoppable — also spoke out on the tragedy.
“Tony Scott was a great director, a genuine friend and it is unfathomable to think that he is now gone,” Denzel said in a statement. “He had a tremendous passion for life and for the art of filmmaking and was able to share this passion with all of us through his cinematic brilliance. My family sends their prayers and deepest condolences to the entire Scott family.”
