The TV journalist and mom of two said her biggest regret in life is not having more children! Read on for more details!
Katie Couric is not only a successful journalist, she’s also a proud mom of daughters Ellie, 21, and Carrie, 16. But the 55-year-old talk show host said in a recent interview that she would have liked to have a bigger family!
The host of the new daytime talk show Katie, which debuts this fall, told Good Housekeeping that she wishes she would have had more kids.
“I love being around my kids. I’m not a particularly solitary person. I like a big, chaotic household — noise, commotion, laughter!” she said in the interview, which is featured in the September issue.
“Sometimes I think I should have had six kids. Or I wish I’d had one [more] at 37, but I was busy. My career.”
Katie became a household name when she was hired as the co-anchor for Today in 1991. She held that position for 15 years, and left in 2006 to become the new anchor and managing editor of CBS Evening News.
Although Katie, who is open about being menopausal, knows her days of having more kids are behind her, she said she still has “total child lust when I see little kids.”
“I think emotionally and psychologically, it’s weird to feel like, ‘Gosh, my childbearing years are over.’ And of course they’ve been over for a long time, but still, they’re officially over now. It’s kind of a head trip, to tell you the truth.”
But the former TV news anchor said that aging has given her a positive outlook on life.
“I know it sounds corny, but I think the key to staying young is having joy inside you; being a caring, loving, generous person; and [having] a sense of humor.”
