The author didn’t ‘see’ Alexia literally does not see the girl, because she’s not white and light-haired like her sisters. I can’t believe the author can be such a pro-white stereotype. The worst part is that none of it was intentional. Alexia is literally invisible in the author’s eyes. The most dangerous kind of racism there is – when the invisibility of people with darker colored skin is deeply ingrained in our psyches.
