A production source tells HollywoodLife.com exclusively that Nick is ’99 percent’ confirmed for the gig, but it’s ultimately Mariah’s decision.

Nick Jonas recently tweeted that becoming an American Idol judge would be a “dream come true,” and now HollywoodLife.com has learned exclusively that Mariah Carey is the only thing standing in the way of his dream becoming a reality! “He hasn’t met up with Mariah yet, but if she signs off on it, he will be the next judge,” an Idol source reveals. “It’s completely her decision. If they have chemistry, and she’s for it, it will be official.”

Is this the part where I write an impassioned letter to Mariah, begging her to give Nick a thumbs up? Because I’ll do it.

There are so many reasons why Nick would make the perfect judge — he’s talented, in touch with the young people, etc. — but most importantly, it would round out the Jonas reality TV trifecta. Kevin Jonas has E!’s Married to Jonas, Joe Jonas has The CW’s The Next, and it’s only fair that Nick gets a show of his own.
