It was a battle of the bands — and the sexes — Aug. 12 during the closing ceremonies of the 2012 Olympics games.

Pop royalty past and present collided during the closing ceremonies of the 2012 London Olympics, but if you ask me — and Twitter — it was The Spice Girls and One Direction who clearly led the pack.

The HollywoodLife.com staff fangirl’d all over the Spice Girls’ long-awaited reunion — they looked even more amazing than when they came together back in 2008 — but we also sang along to 1D’s infectious “What Makes You Beautiful.” (We’re waiting for that song to get old, and enjoying it until it does.)
