Prince William and Kate Middleton are never short on A-list events to attend, but the low-key couple would rather spend their evenings curled up on the couch watching DVDs. It’s enough that Prince Harry is joking that they have become dull and boring!
Talk about becoming an old married couple! It’s only been a year since Prince William and Kate Middleton tied the knot in a lavish ceremony (watched by a global audience of billions), but the newlyweds have already fallen into domestic bliss. “They’ve grown out of clubbing and have no interest in parties,” a friend of the couple tells Vanity Fair. “They just enjoy being together at home.”
While the royal couple could choose to reside in a London palace and have a full staff at their disposal, the low-key lovebirds prefer to live life below the radar in a rented five-bedroom farmhouse in rural Anglesey, hiring only security and a cleaner. “It’s all very normal,” reveals a friend. “The last time I went round, William was pottering around making tea and toast, very chilled and relaxed.”
Though Prince Harry often jokes that couple has become decidedly middle-aged — even dull — Prince William and Kate have no plans to abandon their low-key lifestyle. A typical day for Kate involves shopping at the local supermarket, walking their cocker-spaniel puppy Lupo, and preparing William’s favorite dinner, roast chicken. She’s even started making pots of homemade fruit during the day while William is off working as a search-and-rescue pilot with the Royal Air Force.
Occasionally, the couple visits their local pub, White Eagle, where William enjoys a pint of local beer and Kate indulges in a glass of white wine, but mostly, the lovebirds choose to stay at home and watch DVD box-sets. “Quiet and discreet is how they like things,” explains an aide.
While friends of the couple may laugh about the couple’s “boring” ways, William and Kate know that their quiet lifestyle is only temporary. After the couple married, the Queen agreed to give them a two-year grace period from public life, just as she and Prince Philip did when he was serving as a naval officer in Malta. Soon, they will be forced to move into the late Princess Margaret’s home at Kensington Palace, where they will raise their family.
