The ladies of the U.S. gymnastics team take the gold in London, the first U.S. women to do so since 1996! Read on for the details.
It’s been a long time coming (16 years to be exact), but the U.S. women’s gymnastics team has swept the team finals at the 2012 London Olympics, held on Tuesday, July 31.
The team, comprised of Jordyn Wieber, Aly Raisman, Gabby Douglas, Kyla Ross, and McKayla Maroney, took the gold with an overall score of 183.596. Russia, who won silver, didn’t even come close to the American girls, with an overall score of 178.530. Romania took home the bronze.
Russia, who was thought to be the U.S team’s closest competition, completely fell apart during the floor routine portion of the finals, with two of their gymnasts falling!
The last time a U.S. women’s team took gold in the team finals was in the 1996 Atlanta Olympic games.
Congrats to the U.S. women’s gymnastics team!
What do you think, HollywoodLifers? Are YOU proud of the U.S. women’s gymnastics team?
