Paul Wesley Deserved To Win Choice TV Actor Over Ian Somerhalder

Paul & Ian both turned out award-worthy performances on ‘The Vampire Diaries’ this season, but Paul outshone his on-screen brother with his chilling portrayal of ‘Ripper’ Stefan.

Let me begin by making one thing clear: The Vampire Diaries absolutely deserved to clean up at the 2012 Teen Choice Awards. Candice Accola and Michael Trevino are total scene stealers, Nina Dobrev is by far my favorite sci-fi/fantasy actress on TV, and Ian Somerhalder is undoubtedly the hottest of hotties. But did Ian also deserve to be named Choice Actor (Sci-fi/Fantasy)? If I’m being honest, that’s an accolade I would have given to Paul Wesley.

Regardless of which ship you sail on, there’s no denying that Paul stole the Salvatore spotlight this season. His dramatic turn as Klaus’ (Joseph Morgan) “Ripper” sent chills down my spine when the season began, a feat I’m not sure Ian could easily accomplish. (Honestly, can you imagine being legitimately frightened by Damon?)

You never quite knew where Stefan stood week to week, which wasn’t a result of indecisive writing, but rather a testament to how good an actor Paul really is. While some characters wore their emotions on their sleeves, Stefan was nearly impossible to read, which made him so engaging to watch.

Need I remind you of the scene on the third season premiere, “The Birthday,” when Stefan reached his most desperate point and called Elena? Without even saying a single word, we felt all of Stefan’s pain — and there was so much to feel. Here it is, in case you need a refresher:

Again, I don’t think Ian is a bad actor. On the contrary, I’m constantly blown away by his performances season after season. But Paul owned this season and exhibited a range we hadn’t been privy to. He may not have won the official Teen Choice Award, but he definitely won my respect.

This poll is really disrespectful to Ian & his fans. We took the time to vote nonstop everyday & he won! He deserved it. Paul is an amazing actor too but only one could win so get over it.

Ian he is the best actor more then Paul Wesley he is really but really deserev this award af best actor he is also playing better then Paul and he is also have more fans so all Damon Salvatore fans and all DE family and I think all TVDfamily will alwyas love Ian/Damon then Paul/Stefan so he is the best :)

Andy, I completely agree with you. I’m a huge fan of the show… I love both Ian and Paul, but in regards of TVDS3… Paul had more challenging scenes and he delivered them extraordinarily. Ian is such an excellent actor as well, but I honestly think Paul deserved it more this year…
And to everyone freaking out… IT’S JUST AN OPINION! Just like you have yours, Andy (And Pdubbers) have theirs. Paul and Ian are both extremely talented actors… I’m proud Ian won. :)

okay people definately don’t have a clue of what the teen choice are really about. winning a teen choice doesn’t mean beeing the best but being the most popular. Is ian a better actor than paul? I really don’t think so, but has ian more fans than paul? YEES and that’s the reason why he won and NOT because he is a better actor. i’m not saying ian is a bad actor, he is really good but just because stefan is not so interesting or funny or hot as damon doesn’t mean paul can’t act.

This is exactly what I was thinking. Paul acted so well in season 3. His expressions spoke louder than words even in the scene where he had to stake Klaus, we could see the pain on his face. He enacted his part so well that people could actually feel what he tried to portray.

It’s quite possible that even Ian would’ve been able to do the same but his role in season 3 wasn’t as challenging as that of Paul’s.

Cause Damon was more badass and scary than the whole so-called “ripper” Stefan.We weren’t even shown any ripper scenes..just the usual vamp attack and some rag doll victims.
And this article is just bad journalism not because I’m Team Damon but because it is unprofessional to write such an outright biased article.

Why couldn’t you write an Article just about paul?? Why bring up Ian? Saying Paul deserves the Award OVER him?? Oh i know…because no One would have given a shit then….and don’t tell me you didn’t know this Article would create a war between Ian and Paul Fans! Urgh :(

Paul is a million times better than Ian. I am not saying Ian is a bad actor..matter of fact I love the man. But Paul Wesley should have won. I agree that Ian is not just a pretty face,but I bet that most of the votes were from Delena shippers and they were because of that , because they ship Delena,not because he is a better actor. I honestly couldn’t believe when Paul didn’t win. And we definitely have a probkem if we apreciate hotness over talent. Anyway,congratulations to all the cast

ian did not deserve this award. anyone with eyes and who can spot true talent knows that ian is not a better actor. Ian is beautiful and andy is much more kinder than me, because personally…i don’ think ian can act at all. the only reason he has pulled off damon so well, because ian himself is damon without the crazy and the passion for killing someone. i feel like paul wesley was snubbed this award because he doesn’t look better than ian. i cannot believe, well yes i can people in this country are so shallow. but hey, this isn’t the oscars. i really hope paul gets nominated and win and oscar. that is far better and the trophy doesn’t look bad as part of your home decor, but a damn surf board would,

Ian won his award by the vote. He absolutely deserved his two wins. To say Paul deserved to win instead of Ian makes it sound like an entitlement. It doesn’t matter if Ian has won Choice Actor two years in a row. Ian has worked hard and his fans appreciate him. They showed Ian the love in return for his hard work. Paul is NOT entitled to Ian’s hard work. Hopefully, Ian will win next year too. That being said, I don’t think actors from the same show should pitted against each other to win an award. This is disgusting that you’ve swooped so low as to publish an article saying that Ian didn’t deserve his award.
We, Ian’s dedicated fans, have put in the time and effort to show how much we support and love him and his acting. We voted for him every day for ages so he could win the award he deserves.
We voted because he is an amazing actor and deserves the title of Choice Sci Fi Fantasy Actor. If Paul deserved it, people would have voted for him and he would have won it. I love Paul Wesley but Ian was clearly the better actor and the voters agreed.

Somerholics acknowledge Paul’s acting abilities. He is a great actor – he wouldn’t have been casted if he wasn’t. And PDubbers are just straight out staying that Ian is just a pretty face. People don’t get casted if they don’t have acting abilities! It’s a job! You have to be good at your field in order to get the job!
In this case, Ian is the better actor and you crazy PDubbers have just got to accept it. Try harder to get Paul to win next year, that’s all you can go.

The truth is that PW never had a chance no matter how much the PDubbers voted. He’s just not as popular as Ian, and it is as simple as that. There aren’t enough PDubbers to override Ian’s fans. Ian has created a character that fans LOVE. That is a testament to his acting ability, and he also has an undefinable quality that makes a very large number of people adore him and root for Damon, beyond his good looks. This quality is what PW lacks. He’s a decent actor, but he doesn’t really have “It.” The “It” factor is what you need to win awards that are based on fan voting.

I think it is really funny that Damon fans. Who normally write, he’s hot, he’s gorgeous, love hime, etc. I have never ever read, wow Ian is such a talented and gifted actor. Now because, Paul is not only hot looking but he is also a talented and gifted actor. Now the Ian fans are saying Ian is so is talented. It is actually really funny. I have to admit. When I watch the vampire diaries I’ve made comments like oh scary scene, geez are Paul, Micheal, Daniel, Joseph great actors. Never said that about Ian, usually me and my friends would be saying dude looks great naked or he’s so funny with the one liners. He is a great comedic relief.

I’m sorry but personally, I feel Ian Somerhalder exceeds Paul Wesley as an actor and honestly, if Paul Wesley would have won people would have been on here screaming that he did not deserve it either. It’s the same thing with the whole Delena and Stelena craze, everyone loves an underdog. Ian Somerhalder is the highest paid actor on that show for a reason, he also has more experience as an actor. Paul Wesley doesn’t even compare to playing the “bad guy” when taking Ian Somehalder into consideration but honestly, Joseph Morgan blows them ALL out of the water. Just my opinion :)

I love Paul Wesley but I find a majority of his fans to be quite offensive. Nine times out of ten they can’t get their point and love across without bagging, insulting and sticking a knife into Ian Somerhalder in the process.

Imma respectfully disagree and argue that Ian Smolderhotter deserved to win over Wesley this year. I am a Stelena shipper, but to be honest, Stefan just frustrated the crap out of me this season. Though it was still fascinating to watch Elena and Stefan’s relationship change this season, I was still interested to see where they would take Delena. The introduction of Damon and Elena’s romantic relationship for the first time (at last for Delena fans!) is most likely the reason why Somerhalder beat out Paul. Wesley’s still a bangin’ actor. Stelena for life!!!

Is Ian going to be happy knowing that his fans are attacking his best-friend and co-actor as well as his fans? Does anyone think Paul is going to be happy knowing that his fans are saying that Ian doesn’t deserve an award? Paul acted his socks off this year. Ian did too. However we have to remember the award is voted on by the teen community and I do think the Nina-Ian romance swung the vote. I think we will see Paul holding an Oscar one day. Congrats to both actors and their leading lady on a terrific year in all three of their careers!
