Investigators discovered a Batman mask in the home of the man who opened fire at the midnight premiere of ‘The Dark Knight Rises.’
After the shooting, James Holmes, 24, told police he was “the Joker, enemy of Batman,” and even painted his hair red to resemble the Batman character. Now, the discovery of a mask in James’ apartment implies that the shooter had a full blown Batman obsession.
On July 22, police told The Associated Press that a Batman mask had been found in James’ apartment. Investigators discovered the mask after clearing James’ apartment of ammunition and booby traps.
James has been held in solitary confinement at an Arapahoe County detention since his arrest on July 20. He will be moved after his arraignment, which takes place at 11:30 A.M. PST on July 23.

This blurb seems poorly researched. Perhaps it is because I -am- a Batman fan that these issues become glaring for me, but if Holmes was “obsessed” with Batman, he would have dyed his hair green, not red, because the Joker’s hair has -always- been deplicted as such. The only remote chance he could have dyed it red to “resemble the Batman character” would be if he was trying to deplict the Joker’s appearance before he was dropped in the vat of chemicals and became the villian he is notorious for being; that’s solely based off one comic book arc that shows a possible origin for the Joker and he could (maybe) have red or blonde hair (you never really see the color because it’s deplicted in ‘flashbacks’) (Arc: “The Killing Joke”).
One Batman mask and a couple of poster’s does not make someone obsessed with the subject. If they had found a small shrine in his closet or something, or even a large comic book collection, I’d understand, but as far as you (or we, or anyone for that matter) know, he may have purchased that mask purely to wear during the shooting so he would blend into the crowd better, and then opted against it because it obscured his vision or something.
