President Obama reflected on his daughters during his heartfelt speech about the ‘Dark Knight Rises’ shooting. He said he is thankful that he gets to hug his girls tonight. Read the entire excerpt.
President Barack Obama gave a press conference in Fort Myers, Florida on July 20 regarding the tragic Dark Knight Rises shooting in Aurora, Colorado. As a father of daughters Sasha, 11, and Malia, 14, he said he is lucky that he gets to go home to them tonight.
In his speech, Obama said:
“At the end of the day, what we’ll remember is those we loved and what we did for others. I’m sure many of you who are parents here have the same reactions I did. My daughters go to the movies. If Malia or Sasha had been at the theater, as so many of our kids do every day. Michelle and I will be fortunate enough to hug our girls tonight. For those parents who may not be so lucky, we have to embrace them and let them know we will be there for them as a nation.”
