Miley Cyrus, Nicki Minaj & More: Who Will Judge ‘American Idol’?

Fri, July 13, 2012 12:24pm EDT by 33 Comments

From the cool (Miley Cyrus) to the crazy (Charlie Sheen), we’re rounding up all the potential new ‘Idol’ judges. Vote away!

With the news that neither Steven Tyler nor Jennifer Lopez are returning as American Idol judges in season 12, producers are scrambling to find replacements for the panel. And while it’s anyone’s guess what the actual table will look like come January, some big names have already been dropped, including Miley Cyrus and Nicki Minaj. Oh, and literally every other entertainer in Hollywood.

I’m not kidding. Everyone from Lady Gaga to Elton John to will.i.am has been offered up as a possibility.

Former Idol runner-up Adam Lambert was one of the first names to be floated out in the universe, but while it was originally reported that he and Idol had begun discussions, he issued a statement to clear the air.

Idol has an amazing history of introducing great musical talent, and I was very fortunate to have had the Idol stage play a big part in my career,” Adam told The Hollywood Reporter. “IF Idol wants to talk to me about judging, I’d be more than flattered to have that conversation.”

Katy Perry has also been approached, but it sounds like she’d rather focus on growing her music career, a decision I totally admire.

“People have reached out to me about the possibility of being involved,” she told THR. “And it’s not right for me yet.”

And in crazier news, Idol‘s head honcho Nigel Lythgoe has said he’d also like to see Jerry Lewis and Charlie Sheen join the mix.

So, America, cast your vote and tell us who YOU think deserves a seat at the Idol table!

Adam Lambert would be the perfect judge for Idol…He stood on that stage week after week knowing what had to be done to make it in the competition…He stepped up his game knowing what was at stake…Adam has what it takes to guide the contestants with a gentle yet firm hand for he knows what’s expected of them…He’d give constructive criticism without putting focus on himself…What better way to revamp Idol than start with Grammy Nominated Adam Lambert whose album Trespassing went to #1 on billboard and is now on tour overseas with the legendary rock band Queen…I’d love to see Adam, Fergie & Miley sit in those seats

I think it should be a combination of musical experience along with ability to communicate as criteria for choosing judges. Being well liked helps too. Intelligent, articulate, funny, enthusiastic, knowledgeable, able to critique while being kind and honest. Adam Lambert is a perfect choice for judging Idol. He has 20 years of experience and is familiar with current and past music.

Some past judges seemed to be just putting in time, not earning their top dollars. Fresh blood is badly needed!

Adam Lambert has an insane knowledge of music and is very articulate. I also like Miley, but wouldn’t mine seeing Gwen Stefani and/or Fergie on the panel.

Adam Lambert would make a perfect judge for American Idol. He is honest, very knowledgeable about all aspects of the music industry, articulate, funny, and would give constructive advice without being mean. Adam also would enhance the judge’s table with his looks and sense of style. Adam all the way!

Lambert would be excellent, in that he can speak in complete sentences and has opinions.

I hope they get two more who can do that much.

Adam is the perfect fit for judging Idol, for a few reasons:

a)he’s a former contestant (and a very popular one at that) who knows how the show works from the inside out. He can truly empathize with the contestants and I think that will render very effective critiques from him and since the contestants will see him as a peer rather than a threat they will most likely respond positively to his suggestions.

b)he’s a natural born mentor. he’s been mentoring his peers and associates since he was in children’s theater.

c)his own talent and deep knowledge of vocal techniques along with his vast and eclectic knowledge of music, not to mention he has a GREAT ear :) These assets will allow him to make truly informed critiques and suggestions.

d)he’s young, good looking, relevant, extremely articulate, honest, witty and downright hilarious when humor comes to him (which is often). Listening to him talk (about anything) is a very pleasurable experience.

d)he’s kind and, again, having been in these kids shoes both on Idol and in life in general during his early years, I think he can really help them by giving them criticisms they can apply to make their performances better and help them develop into the artist they are meant to be, but he won’t be rude or hurtful.

e)he’s gay. Yes I said it. This country and the entertainment industry is going through an evolution right now where the LGBT community is finally getting the equal treatment and recognition they deserve. It’s becoming less and less acceptable to sweep the gays under the rug when it comes to television shows. Idol may be the king of singing competition shows but it is currently trailing behind The Voice and others when it comes to showcasing gay contestants. Idol needs Adam to, as he has said, “make it comfortable” for people.

It would be a win/win/win in every way possible if Adam becomes a judge on American Idol. I will gladly accept his Trespassing tour possibly being postponed for this amazing opportunity because not only will I get to see him on TV each week but I know this will also fuel his music career and earn him new fans and the respect that he so deserves.

I can’t think of anyone I would rather see as a judge on American Idol than Adam Lambert — he is so articulate & of course immensely talented. He also seems to be a very honest and real person. I would tune in every time if he were judging.

Would love to see Adam Lambert as a judge. He’s insanely talented and witty. Love his new album out now. I like some of Nicki Minaj’s songs but wouldn’t be excited to see her as a judge.

Adam Lambert is my top pick for one of the next judges. He knows what American Idol is all about, since he went through it. He wouldn’t be afraid to get honest with the contestants to help them in the long run.

Adam Lambert would make the best judge, bar none. Most talented male singers in the world today, with tons of theater experience. He is VERY smart, articulate, honest, kind, and well liked and respected by everyone in the music industry. The reception he is now receiving, as Queen’s front man in Europe, is simple staggering. Diehard Queen fans have been swept into the Adam Storm. Not only would I hire Lambert, I would make him head judge. He commands every situation with grace and dignity, and is a natural born leader.

This ain’t kwl, they offering probably everyone in the music industry,it just shouldn’t be that way put someone with experience like legends like Mariah Carey, I would suggest Whitney but she is no longer with us(RIP) but seriously not every tom dick and harry in the music industry, I love miley cyrus, nicki manij but seriously nicki manij, what is she gona rapp her way through,i seriously think the cool but they can’t do those mega notes,it should be mariah or adele she’s young and really talented someone can notice unique voices and can spot real talent, it shouldnt just be a plain old singing show,I support the list of singers but they should really consider the legends and singers nowadays arent like they use to be,yes pop is cool but those High notes that make you feel strong emotican like adele and whitney and mariah that is known for the whistle note, now that are ppl that can spot real talent not just average singers…..
