As Katie has divorced Tom and left the Church of Scientology, the church says that he can’t be friends with or talk to her. A noted family psychologist tells HollywoodLife.com exclusively that this could be potentially damaging for Suri. Read on for the details.
As Katie Holmes as reportedly joined a new Catholic church following her divorce to Tom Cruise, practices of the Church of Scientology imply that Tom must ignore her. This could have a drastic impact on their 6-year-old daughter, Suri, as she grows up watching.
Jeff Gardere, noted family psychologist and chief contributor to Healthguru.com, tells HollywoodLife.com exclusively, “It will be unhealthy for Suri to live a life of a split existence.”
Jeff clarifies, “Going from a mother’s house which is one polar side [to] the other, which is the other polar opposite, she’s [Suri] going to have a skewed and unhealthy perception as to what a relationship is because of this kind of splitting…This may impact her own relationships in the future.”
There are rumors that Tom, 50, will have to view Katie, 33, as a Suppressive Person, which is explained as a person who “will goof up or vilify any effort to help anybody and particularly knife with violence anything calculated to make human beings more powerful or more intelligent,” according to the Church of Scientology’s official website.
In an interview with MSNBC, Tom’s former Scientology auditor, Marty Rathburn, says that the church “closely monitors the communication of high profile members and orders members to sever ties with suppressive people, particularly those who are critical of the church.”
Should this rumor prove true for Tom and Katie’s situation, Jeff is worried for Suri. “I just hope that this is just rumor and they aren’t advising him…not to interact with the mother.”
He continues, “It might warp her perception as to what relationships are about. In her own, she may feel that once she breaks up with someone that she has to completely shut down [with] that person. And that would be a shame…”
What do you think, HollywoodLifers? Are YOU worried that Tom and Katie’s divorce could negatively affect Suri?

Katie Holmes has shown a lot of courage and integrity in her move to keep Suri from being indoctrinated into Scientology.
She has, unfortunately, created a very bad PR situation for the church. One which they will not ignore.
Scientology’s Intelligence Department, The Office of Special Affairs, will have her listed as an enemy of the Church of Scientology and she may suffer the consequences of speaking out against the Church.
This is probably the reason Nicole Kidman was so low key and quiet when she split from Tom and the church.
I wish Ms. Holmes all the best and hope and pray that she is surrounded by supportive family members and good friends.
Suri is a very lucky child to have such a brave and selfless Mom.
