'Teen Mom' Recap: Amber and Gary Get Back Together in Rehab

Farrah visits her family back in Iowa and has more arguments with her parents over Sophia. Meanwhile, Maci decides to fully commit to going back to school, and Amber promises to work on herself for the sake of Leah.

The July 11 episode of Teen Mom had us cheering for the moms, especially through Catelynn Lowell‘s heart-wrenching story about struggling with placing Carly up for adoption, and how she is using her experience to help other moms. Plus, Maci Bookout proved she could commit to being a good mom and student to provide a better life for her son.

Amber & Gary Are Officially Back Together

Gary and Leah spend their last day visiting Amber at her Malibu rehab resort. While in therapy, Amber Portwood met with another therapist, Laura, who brought up Amber’s trust issues with Gary Shirley – a common theme in their relationship. Although Amber, Gary, and Leah couldn’t all be together at the same time, Amber found some quality time to spend with Leah at the rehab resort. They laughed and played on the playground, looking like a loving, adorable mother-daughter duo. Despite Amber’s questionable parenting past, it is clear that she truly loves Leah and is working on herself in therapy and in rehab to be the best mom she can be.

When Gary and Amber sit down with Laura, they expressed they are not only committed to working on their relationship, they are back together for real – not a huge shocker for this notorious on-again-off-again couple. Amber promises to continue to work on herself and make herself better for Leah, and the emotional goodbye at the end of the episode proves she has a lot to live for.

Catelynn Gets Emotional During An Adoption Support Group

Catelynn and Tyler Baltierra‘s decision to place Carly up for adoption has been an emotional journey for their entire family, but Catelynn has decided to use her experiences to enlighten others. She attends a support group for other young women who are placing their children up for adoption, and speaks to the other women about her experiences. On this episode, she brought up her grandma, with whom she has a mature and loving relationship. Her grandma even opened up in the car about giving birth at 17 and how difficult it was to be a teen mother!

During the group session, one woman asked how she should handle her mom who doesn’t understand placing your child up for adoption, and Catelynn said she had similar experiences with her mom. Catelynn’s grandma even admitted that after seeing Carly and holding her, she could understand how parents and grandparents can feel, specially those of other generations. However, she also said she respects Catelynn’s decision and will continue to support her. Catelynn also got emotional when she talked about giving Carly up for adoption, getting choked up and saying  it was really easy up until she had to leave Carly. She had a lot of support, which made her feel better. When she got back, Catelynn recalled the support group event to Tyler, who told her it might be a good idea for Catelynn’s mom to go, too.

Farrah Visits Her Family In Iowa – And Gets Her Braces Off

Before making a trip back to Iowa, Farrah Abraham opened up to her therapist Dina over the phone about how she was a bit apprehensive about seeing her parents after living in Florida for a month. She felt that she gained her independence by being away and taking care of Sophia on her own, and she didn’t want her parents to bring her down with their negativity. Although Dina insisted that Farrah needs to stand up to her parents, it seems that Farrah has never had a problem speaking her mind to them. And when Farrah arrived back home, the usual tension and arguing ensued.

Debra, Farrah’s mom, suggested that Sophia should be left in Iowa, and that Debra and Michael, Farrah’s dad, could take care of Farrah’s daughter. Oh, and Debra made a comment that Farrah’s teeth don’t look completely straight after getting her braces taken off. Farrah was so upset with her parents for their constant controlling behavior and comments, that she lashed out at Michael over dinner. She insisted she’s qualified to take care of Sophia, and that she loves her independence and being a single mom in Florida. By the end of the episode, Debra mentioned she’s noticed a positive change and maturity in Farrah, and seems to be coming around to supporting her daughter.

Maci Gets Her School Schedule Back On Track

Once an honor student, Maci is ready to get back to school and commit full-time. The problem is that she feels guilty about leaving Bentley, and wasn’t sure if she would be able to balance a full-time schedule of classes while taking care of her 3-year-old, especially since she has a pattern of enrolling in courses and dropping them mid-semester. To ensure she was making the right steps, Maci met with her academic advisors to go over her schedule, and they agreed that a 15-hour schedule a lot for a young mother to handle, and even mention that she doesn’t need to feel pressured to finish her associate degree in two years.

Although it’s clear Bentley is still attached to his mom and will be sad to see her be gone for a lot of the day, Maci knows that working hard at school and juggling her responsibilities as a mother will be tough, but she has support from boyfriend Kyle King. When Maci finally met with the head of the journalism department this week, they finalize her class schedule, which is only 9 credit hours and will put her on track to graduate by spring of 2013. Although Maci seems like a bit of a slacker for not having a full-time schedule, she knows it is best for Bentley and looks forward to being a straight-A student again.

I love all these young ladies. I’ve watched them grow as mother’s thru the good and the bad! I commend all of them because I’m a mother myself and while it wasn’t all fun and games for me either. I made it thru and still learning my 11 year old and 8 year old’s different ways of life they’re doing great keep up the great job ladies. be safe and careful.

Does anyone else think Amber is higher than a kite when she’s talking with her therapists? She can barely keep her eyes open!

From all of the internet postings, it seems that Maci has plenty of time for drinking and goofing off around the country. Apparently college is not really a priority for her. That 2-year degree in journalism will at least get the community college the money for her tuition (and help pay the counselor’s salary), but it will get Maci exactly nowhere. She has been making a lot of big statements about being a role model for girls in her position, but this has just been exposeed as all talk and no action.

I thought the same thing about the 2 year degree. Do these people even understand what goal they are working toward? Maci even said that the school had her best interests in mind. Wrong. They only know her from a piece of paper. They have the school’s best interests in mind! A two year degree is not going to get her a job! Even Catlynn mentioned something about earning a degree to teach kindergarten through second grade. Elementary schools are only hiring people who are certified teachers in ELEMENTARY EDUCATION. A Bachelor’s degree. Most teachers either have or are working toward their Master’s degree. These girls need some guidance.

You obviously didn’t see her in 16 and pregnant. Her home life was no place to raise a child! Her parents are obviously drug addicts who could not help a 16 year old CHILD raise another child. Yes I agree with the saying “you made your bed and now you have to lie in it”. But she made the mature and right decision for her daughter. She gave Carley a better life that she herself could have given her. By saying that adoption is a “mistake” shows your truce ignorance and stupidity. Children shouldn’t be raising children. If a teenager isn’t fully compatible of providing everything emotionally and financially for a child then why make that child suffer?! A key example of what could have happened is her irresponsible co-star Amber. So before you set here and write such careless things maybe you should really know Caitlyn’s story!!!

I saw every episode and that’s my take on it, they were thinking to short term with their decision because not even two years later they had a home of their own, not to mention they had tylers mom. Two years is a blink of an eye and now everyone has a life time of sadness.

Well you clearly didn’t. Although she may regret her decision to give her child up for adoption (which is no easy feat) she knows it was the right choice for her child. They can still see her and they can explain to her later the reasons behind their choice. Catelynn knows about her family situation. That is not the type of surroundings that you want for your child. This was the best choice for a stable up bringing for their child. It was the best choice, and to be a mother means that you have to do what’s best for your child. If you’d watched ‘every episode’ then you would know her home life. She made a responsible decision regarding her child and is sticking to it.

You can’t comment on her actions as you don’t know what you’d do in that type of situation until your in it. Wanting a better life for your child than you had is just parental nature.

Please keep your negativity of this strong mothers decision to yourself.

Money doesn’t mean a better life and for all we know the adopted parents fight and will get divorced. No one is a perfect parent but I think katelynn and tyler could’ve done a good job!

P.S. Name calling makes you sound immature and makes people not take your comments seriously.

You are not only wrong but ignorant! This young lady is a role model and so strong given what she has had to grow up with. Missing her daughter does not equal her making a mistake. She and Tyler did the most selfless thing they could do at 16 years old and put the interest of their child above all else.

I completely agree, that was a great way of putting it. Teenagers are known for being selfish, but these two did everything they could to ensure that their child had everything she needed. I’m impressed by the way that they handled the situation, she was only sixteen and knew she couldn’t raise a child, she was not equipped and did not have what she needed at the time. She did the right thing by doing adoption! Now a family has a baby that they were ready for and can provide for.
I was a teen mom and know how hard it can be doing it alone, but the difference in my situation was that I had a job, graduated early, and attended a four year college to get my bachelor’s degree and was able to pay for everything we needed, and now I have a beautiful daughter! The road wasn’t easy, but for me I couldn’t see it any other way. They were definitely not in a situation where they could have raised a child at the time. I support their decision!
