With Suri Cruise living primarily in New York following Tom and Katie’s divorce, she will be enrolled in private school, starting this fall. She has previously been home-schooled by private tutors, so what will this drastic transition mean for her? We asked two psychiatrists to comment on how they believe Suri will adjust.
Suri Cruise‘s way of learning is about to completely change. Instead of being taught in the privacy of her own home, the six-year-old will join other classmates at a private school in New York City. Not only is she one of the most famous children in the city, but she will also be dealing with a major environmental shift on the heels of her parents’ recent divorce.
“Although it is always best for children to be in a classroom rather than being home schooled, Suri will have some special challenges to overcome,” Dr. Carole Lieberman, Beverly Hills celebrity psychiatrist, told HollyBaby.com EXCLUSIVELY. ”Starting school is happening at the same time as her parents’ divorce. Her whole world is turned upside down already.”
Dr. Gilda Carle, relationship expert and 30-second therapist for Today.com, believes her biggest issues will be with socialization and learning to be around other kids all day.
“Her life has been Suri-centered, and suddenly she is going to realize there are other people in the world,” Dr. Gilda said. “She is going to have to learn to share and get along with other kids.”
It will also be more difficult for someone like Suri to join a group of kids who have possible known each other for years already. “She’s not used to having to follow rules and being one of a class, instead of an only child who is treated special,” Dr. Lieberman said.
With A-list parents and being around an incredibly public Hollywood divorce, perhaps the most challenging part of joining other kids in school will be the teasing.
“All celebrity kids get teased when their classmates see their family on magazine covers and news shows,” Dr. Lieberman said. But she also insists that there will most likely be other children of divorce or who have celebrity parents, so Suri will have some other kids that will sympathize with her.
The bottom line is that this transition will be best for Suri, and it will be beneficial for her to be around other kids while growing up.
“As she gets older, and understands more, she will be ever more grateful to Katie for helping her escape a Scientology education,” Dr. Leiberman said.
